Recruiting Report: 2019 Jaelyn Withers
2019 Jaelyn Withers has been one of the biggest stock risers since the high school season ended and he showed why this past weekend at the first live period. The 6’7 forward out of North Mecklenburg High and currently playing for Team Loaded NC was the second leading scorer this past weekend at the D.C. Adidas Gauntlet in the 17 and under age group averaging 16.7 points per game. He also finished with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game. Withers brings tremendous versatility to the court with his size and agility Withers shot 43 percent from three this past high school season and he touched on the season.
“The high school season went pretty good, it ended so fast, we should not have lost in the third round of the playoffs but it was a good season.”
Many high major programs are making the junior a priority, “Recruitment is going pretty good, the latest to offer is Providence.”
He spoke on the Providence program, “They are a pretty good program, I need to look more into them but I know they are pretty good.”
When asked what schools are showing the most interest, he said, “it is between UVA, Florida and Clemson.”
Virginia recently visited Withers last month, “Tony Bennett came in on Monday before they played in the NCAA tournament and he just told me, you are definitely what we need.” He went on to say, “UVA is a pretty good team and I like the coaching staff.”
He knows that Florida has some good players in the program, “I just know they have a bunch of dogs on the team, I want to look more into the program.”
Clemson is another ACC program showing lots of interest in Withers, he said, “I have been to the campus multiple times on unofficial visits and it is great down there.”
Since the first live period has ended, he has picked up offers from Louisville and UConn.
