Recruiting Report: Isaac Elsasser (2019)
Bowling Green High School’s 6’4” wing Isaac Elsasser (2019) is one of the top sleeper prospects in Northwest Ohio’s junior class. He’s emerged over the past half-year or so, averaging 19.9 points as a junior for Bobcats and being named first team all conference.
Elsasser is a skilled scorer who creates separation with jab steps and ball fakes. But, he doesn’t need too much space to get his shot off. Just last weekend with the Ohio Buckets at the Kentucky Jam Fest, Elsasser got hot in a hurry.
“I scored 36 points against a team from Louisville, that’s including six 3s,” Elsasser said. “I’d say my best strength is scoring from the outside, whether it’s pull-up jumpers or spot-up shooting, or even getting to the rim and finishing. I feel like I’m a very good scorer.”
He’s afforded the opportunity to play on the perimeter with the Ohio Buckets, whereas he’s one of the largest players for BG during the winter. The 2 or 3 is his natural position. However, he’d like to become a more dynamic ball-handler out there.
“To really get to the college level, guards need to be able to handle the ball very well. And I feel like that’s one of the things I can improve on. … It’s not like I’m bad at ball-handling, I just can always improve on that,” Elsasser said.
Coaches interested in a physical wing with a reliable pull-up jumper and efficient scoring ability can check out Elsasser with the Ohio Buckets at the Dru Joyce Classic next weekend.
To date, his coaches have reached out to Ashland and Wittenberg, while the hometown Bowling Green Falcons came and watched this winter.
“[BGSU] came and watched me play against Napoleon one time. And then I emailed the assistant coach a week or two ago, and they’re trying to come watch me play during the AAU season,” Elsasser explained.
Ashland and Wittenberg are two of the better Ohio programs at the D-II and D-III level respectively. His coaches have reached out to both, but they’re yet to contact Elsasser directly.
“My AAU coach has been talking to Ashland about me a little bit. And then my Bowling Green High School team has been talking to Wittenberg as well,” Elsasser said.
At the end of the day, Elsasser just wants a chance to fulfill his dream of playing at the next level.
“I’m really open to anything. I really just want to play basketball at the next level. That’s one of my dreams I’ve had since middle school,” he said.
He carries a 3.4 GPA, 21 ACT score, and would like to study sports management in college.
