Circle City Shootout: 2020 Guard Standouts
The second AAU weekend for Prep Hoops Indiana is complete and we got to see some really solid teams for the second weekend. Today, we being our breakdown by class of those prospects that stuck out to us. Next up are the guards in the 2020 class.
Jackson Kabrick | 6’1 PG | DistinXion 2020 Black | Jasper HS (IN)
Kabrick is a solid point guard with the handles to stick at that spot at the next level. He is a thicker version of Ricketts but with a motor that exceeds anyone on the floor. He is able to get into the lane and showed me a nice pull up jumper in traffic that he can hit consistently. A strong lead guard that would fit well at a D3.
Caleb Yager | 6’1 SG | DistinXion 2020 Red | Brown County HS (IN)
Yager was the lone bright spot on the 2020 Red squad. He is a long shooting guard who can put the ball on the floor and is able to shoot the deep ball. He’s tough on defense with his active hands and he is a guy who looks to score when he drives it. A solid player who is worth watching for a small school.
Elijah Carlson | 5’6 PG | Michigan Basketball Academy Ingles | Kent City HS (MI)
Carlson is a small lead guard who can really shoot the lights out of the ball. He could grow a few more inches but as of now is pretty filled out in his frame. May reach 5’8 or so but brings toughness that most guards don’t have. He moves well with out the ball and is quick enough that he can stay in front of other guards. Quick hands that get underneath the ball on defense. He made four threes and scored 22 points. Carlson can even tough rim showing his overall athleticism.
Josiah Ricketts | 6’ CG | DistinXion 2020 Black | North Posey HS (IN)
Ricketts had a really solid deep ball working in the games that I saw. He was able to get to his spots and hit multiple catch-and-shoot jumpers in the games. He’s a wiry 6’1 guard who plays with toughness. Really good shooter who can get hot quickly.
Kadaphi Honaker | 6’3 SG/SF | Hoop Dreams – Bowles | Park Tudor HS (IN)
Honaker didn’t play that much in this game but he did look pretty solid when he was in. His shot looked a lot better than it has in the past and he was able to get himself open and was moving much more without the ball than he did in high school. He was playing really solid post defense too. A good first look at him this summer.
