Midwest Throwdown: Sunday Standouts
Prep Hoops Missouri was in attendance at the Recruits Look Midwest Throwdown on Sunday in St. Louis. Here are a few players who caught my eye during the morning games:
Lawrence Brazil 5’11” Jets-Ramey United 17U: A really nice point guard who is playing with a lot of confidence, especially after helping his high school team (Belleville West) win a state championship in the state of Illinois. He has smooth handles and he knocked down a number of 3-pointers from different spots on the court. He did an excellent job of dictating the pace of the game while dropping several dimes.
Tyler Cochran 6’3″ Hoopers 17U: A physical beast of a wing player who showed the ability to dominate the game in a number of ways. He could get to the basket any time he wants and get buckets through contact while drawing fouls. His handles were solid and he could find open teammates with some excellent passing. He could also knock down a jumper off the dribble after creating the necessary space. He was also a hound on defense with his quick hands, which he used to strip people in the post and pick the pocket of opposing ball handlers. The coaches on hand watching him got an eyeful
Nick Zeil 6’8″ KC Pacers Blue 17U: An impressive post player who does a multitude of things to help his team win games. He displayed the ability to score in the post with some nice moves, but I loved all of his intangibles. He is physically tough and he didn’t mind the bump-and-grind action. He rebounded well, set hard screens and went after every loose ball in his area. Loved his effort and high motor.
Cheikh Ndiaye 6’10” SI Select 17U: A big post player who had a few eye-popping moments of activity while watching him. I was very impressed with his mobility. He had a number of excellent rim-runs which led to some easy baskets in transition. He was also excellent on the offensive glass and could be very imposing on defense with his size and length in the lane.
