Midwest Live! (Omaha): Sunday Standouts
DaQuavion Walker, 6’1 PG (All Iowa Attack Black 16U)
The best surprise of the spring so far, this Waterloo East point guard has a chance to be a big-time player for the Trojans the next two seasons. He anticipates extremely well defensively, and jumps passing lanes as good as we saw all weekend. Offensively, he’s quick enough to blow-by his guy routinely, and was dropping dime after dime. He’ll make a high debut in the next installment of 2020 prospect rankings.
Tyler Sansgaard, 6′ SG (All Iowa Attack 16U Black)
The best shooter we saw today, this Nevada sophomore is a true sniper. He canned eight 3-balls in a semifinal win over KC Spurs Silver, more in a single game than any other player we saw this weekend. He scored 26 points in that game. You can not leave him open.
Logan Peters, 6’2 G (Iowa Cornsharks Select 17U)
He was the engine for an Iowa Cornsharks team that was utterly impressive in their 17 point win over 43 Hoops. There was nothing he didn’t do, and offensively he was scoring from all over the floor. The South Hamilton guard’s passing was most impressive, especially the alley-oop off the backboard to Woodward Academy’s Mike Barker.
Derrick Emilifeonwu, 6’3 G (Kingdom Hoops-Mosley 17U)
Maybe no Iowa guy had a more productive weekend than this Australian turned Valley Tiger. College coaches were gushing over him, Division II schools in attendance were especially interested. It’s his cool, calm demeanor, his steady, smart pace, his size and skill; what’s not to like?
Trey Hinote, 6′ G (Kingdom Hoops-Mosley 17U)
This Greene County standout had been a mainstay for the Iowa Cornsharks the past few years, but has made the move over to an ultra-talented Kingdom Hoops Elite squad. He came off the bench and provided a very welcomed spark with his sharpshooting this weekend. He was particularly adept from deep in a semifinal against KC Spurs; Hinote made four 3s in the first half, five total in that game.
Spencer Jones, 6’6 G/F (Kansas City Spurs Black 17U)
Probably the best player we saw today. Jones was putting on a show during a semifinal win over Kingdom Hoops Elite with his smooth jumper and his ability to handle the rock at 6’6. He’s got a good feel for the game, and certainly opened the eyes of college coaches in attendance. The Bishop Meige (KS) junior — a top-10 prospect in Kansas’ 2019 class — could have several offers roll in before his summer is up.
Dalen Ridgnall, 6’4 F (Kansas City Spurs Black 17U)
Again — like yesterday — this big, athletic, versatile forward was impressive. Today, he was showcasing a pretty good mid-range game to go along with his dominance around the rim. Word on the street is he was having a big spring up until now, there’s no reason to believe the Rockhurst junior — a top-15 prospect in Missouri’s 2019 class — won’t blow up this summer.
