Spring Spotlight: Columbia’s Jakob Poulton Using Spring To Boost His Already Impressive Game
An ultra talented 2019 prospect, Columbia’s Jakob Poulton is continuing to put in the work to remain one of the top guards in his class as Spring rolls on.
Currently playing his Spring ball as a member of Boise FLITE, Poulton will look to bring his high scoring and excellent vision to a few tournaments outside of Boise in an attempt to secure more eyes on him and play against top tier competition.
Prep Hoops Idaho recently caught up with Poulton, whom, in our latest 2019 rankings comes in as a top 10 guy. Poulton dished on his successful season commenting, “last year my team made huge strides. We were competitive in almost every game. Personally, I was thankful to receive Second Team All 5A SIC honors as I was top five in scoring and assists per game.”
Poulton was near the top or at the top of our list of 2019s the entire season last year at Columbia as his team went 5-17 but had wins over Skyview and Nampa twice. Poulton was one of two juniors to make the 5A All SIC second team (Cole Alton, Boise was the other) and one of only three juniors total to be named to either the first or second team. Clearly, his game and skills did not go unnoticed.
Now, as we continue to make our way through the Spring, Poulton continues to grind. “This Spring I am playing with Boise FLITE and we are traveling to Seattle and Oakland for tournaments. I’m also getting in the gym as much as possible, trying to get better every single day,” said Poulton.
As a member of Boise FLITE and traveling for a number of tournaments, Poulton is making strides in his offseason development. But, of course with a player who is dedicated as he is, there’s always more to work on. “This Spring I’m working hard on all parts of my game and just trying to make myself the most complete basketball player as I can be. Specifically, I’m trying to get stronger and become more physical as that’s what I have struggled with,” Poulton added.
We fully expect to see Poulton continue to hold it down at the top of our 2019 rankings and based off the amount of work he is looking to keep putting in, there is a good possibility he will return back at the top when all is said and done. Regardless, the shifty guard is in for a big senior season and will be lighting up scoreboards once again.
