Recruiting Report: Dillon Carlson (2019)
After a breakout junor with an upstart Ankeny squad, Dillon Carlson has started to see some recruitment start to come his way, and will use a summer with the Martin Brothers 17U unit to continue and prove his hoops prowess to area D2 and NAIA coaches.
That Martin Brothers squad was already one of the best in the Midwest, and after adding some additional key pieces this season, there will undoubtedly be plenty of eyes on them this spring and summer.
“This year, my last year of AAU, I’m just hoping to get some main schools in for my recruitment and see where it goes from there,” said Carlson.
So far, he’s been hearing from D2 schools Sioux Falls, Augustana and Oskaloosa NAIA William Penn.
“I’m hoping to kind of open that (recruitment) up a little bit, and see what happens this summer,” said Carlson.
Dillon Carlson is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 30 prospect in his class.
After averaging 10.5 points per game as a sophomore, Carlson showed significant improvement as a junior, going for 17 points per game. He was the top 4A scorers in Iowa’s junior class.
“I think my athleticism has increased a little bit, as well as my point guard skills. I was just trying to run our offense and get everyone on the team involved,” said Carlson.
“I felt like if I didn’t perform well then we didn’t have a very good chance to win. So, it was just a mindset thing, and I went into every game justb trying to get the win. We didn’t end the way we wanted to, but I thought it was a strong season for us.”
Now, with what should be an eventful 17U season ahead of him with Martin Brothers, Carlson ready to hit the road with one of the Midwest’s best teams.
“There’s a lot of guys on our team that are just big and athletic and can really score the ball,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun playing with those guys, and hopefully we’ll be able to win some tournaments.”
