Recruiting Report: Zach Vaia (2019)
Zach Vaia who is a smaller lead guard at 5’9” from Riverside Brookfield shined with Breakaway 17U this spring. The 2019 guard is crafty with the rock changing gears and speeds keeping the defense off balance. He advances the ball up the floor in transition. Hits floaters and threes. Definitely has some scoring pop, but it was his passing that stood out most as he is unselfish getting his teammates involved in the game. Quality small college player.
Vaia broke down his junior year at RB.
“I think we had a pretty successful season. Shot the ball well. I facilitated well for my guys. Having a shooter like Ryan Cicenas helped me get my assist numbers up. Trying to work hard for my team. I scored the ball well and want to focus on that more next year.”
This spring he is running with Breakaway 17U.
“I am enjoying it. We have a good group of guys. We play hard and play for each other. We are focused on getting better and winning.”
What can he bring to a team at the next level?
“I can bring a motor and get the team rolling. I have always been able to pick guys up and making a few plays to get the team back on track.”
He says a couple colleges have shown early interest.
“I have heard from Carthage. I have talked to the University of Chicago. And some other smaller schools in New Jersey.”
