Class of 2018: Recruiting Updates
Some players signed their NLI’s months ago and some are still undecided. But, recently, several players have made college decisions or are getting closer to a decision. Here are 11 players with updates in recent weeks:
Khalil Chatman, Jefferson
Chatman had a monster senior season (averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds) for Jefferson and picked up offers from Montana State and Detroit Mercy, but ended up committing to the University of Pacific and coach Damon Stoudamire. He also received interest from Oregon State, Washington State and Kansas State. A 6-foot-8 athletic beast, Chatman should be a great pick-up for the Tigers. Plus, he’ll get the chance to play in Portland when Pacific faces the Portland Pilots.
Isaac Amaral-Artharee, Central Catholic
In need of a bucket late in a game, there aren’t many players as capable of scoring as Amaral-Artharee, who can score at all three levels. He committed to Chaminade University, the Division II school in Hawaii, known for participating in the Maui Invitational. Last year, the Silverswords notched a win over Pac-12 opponent Cal.
Matt Lang, Jesuit
Lang averaged 15.4 points and shot 38% from deep this season, leading the Crusaders to a 6A state tourney appearance. He signed as a preferred walk-on with 2017 national runner-up Gonzaga.
Bryce Sloan, Lincoln
Still undecided, Sloan has continued to be recruited by Western Oregon. Division I Marist College in New York is also in the picture.
Bostyn Holt, Roosevelt
Holt’s recruitment is still open and Division I University of Nebraska visited him earlier this week. Alcorn State, University of Portland and Missouri State have also expressed interest.
Jalen Thompson, West Linn
After a career as a multi-year contributor for good West Linn teams, Thompson has signed with the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a Division II school. Last year, he shot 44% from three and 85% from the line.
J.R. Schilling, Lake Oswego
Schilling committed to Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters will gain a long wing who can shoot (41 percent from deep last year) and defend.
Alexis Angeles, Tualatin
The second-leading scorer in 6A averaging 25.9 points per game, Angeles is still in communication with schools. He’s receiving interest from Chaminade and Western Oregon.
Tyke Thompson, West Salem
Thompson committed to South Puget Sound CC. Thompson shot 38 percent from three and 88 percent from the line this year and averaged 13 points, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
Tariq Harris, Crescent Valley
Also a football standout, Harris will continue his basketball career at Clackamas College.
Dyshawn Hobson, Corvallis
Hobson is a terrific floor general. He’ll be taking his talents to NAIA power Northwest Christian in Eugene.
