2021 Rankings Update: Top Point Guards
The 2021 class is full of really good point guards. Both the floor general type and the scoring type. Point is by far the deepest position group in the freshman class. There is always uncertainty about Zion Harmon staying in the 2021 class or even in the state of Kentucky but that will sort itself out over time. Here’s a look at the top point guards in the 2021 class:
Zion Harmon, Adair County – Much has been said and written about Harmon already in his career. Zion is likely the most talked about player in some time and he is always talked about to be transferring to another school or out of state. There’s always a rumor that Zion will reclassify up to the 2020 class. Regardless of the rumors always swirling, one thing is truth. Zion Harmon is a high major talent and an elite scorer. You can see Harmon on the EYBL circuit with Bluff City this spring and summer.
Ben Johnson, Lexington Catholic – Another big time scorer, Johnson came on at the end of his freshman season for the Knights. Johnson is the youngest of 3 boys and both his older brothers are currently playing D1 college basketball. Ben tracks to be the same type of player. If Johnson can grow a few more inches, he may be the best prospect out of the 3. Ben is already a good mid-range and deep shooter. It won’t be long until he is finishing through traffic and trying to dunk on everyone. Johnson will play his AAU ball with M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 15u this season.
Kale Gaither, Henderson County – Kale is a crafty scorer and above average passer for his age. The biggest question surrounding Gaither is if he will grow or not. As he stands now, Kale is projected as a solid D2 to low D1 prospect. If he hits a growth spurt and gets to 6’3 or 6’4, he can be mid major or better as a college prospect. Kale is definitely one to track as the class moves forward. Gaither will be playing all AAU season with EG10 out of Indiana and will be on the Adidas Gold circuit.
KJ Crump, University Heights Academy – Another prospect limited by his lack of height, Crump is super skilled and has a basketball IQ through the roof. But he is only 5’9 and doesn’t look to grow much more. Crump really could be a poor man’s Tyler Ulis type of prospect if he develops that bulldog mentality Ulis always plays with. KJ is a really good player and will play college basketball. The only question is which level. You can find KJ running the point for 15u Team Manimal this spring and summer on the Adidas circuit.
Jaden Rogers, Fern Creek – Rogers has possibly the highest upside of any point guard in this class but has to develop a mean streak and get more assertive on the court. Jaden is quick, skilled and electric with the ball in his hands but he has got to become more aggressive on the floor. Rogers will see a much bigger role next season after Fern Creek graduated 11 seniors. We should know by this time next year if Jaden is going to be one of the best in the class or if he’s going to stay in the middle of the pack. Rogers will be playing with George Hill on the Under Armour Association this season.
