IndyBall: 2021 Standouts Pt. 2
The first AAU event for Prep Hoops Indiana is complete and we got to see some really solid teams for the opening week. Having teams like EG10, UA Grind, Team Teague, and Indiana Elite gave us a glimpse at what to expect from some of the top programs this year. Today, we being our breakdown by class of those prospects that stuck out to us continuing on with the 2021 class.
Brady Hunt – 6’5 | SF | 2021 | Delta (IN) | Indiana Elite Northeast 2021
Hunt is a really solid 2021 prospect that more people should know about. Big wing who can shoot, handle the ball, and make plays. He’s big but still really mobile and should stick as a true wing. Best off the catch from three but more than capable of putting it on the floor and driving to finish or create and with his body, you aren’t really pushing him anywhere.
Jaden Rogers – 5’10 | PG | 2021 | Fern Creek (KY) | UA Grind 2021
Rogers is a smaller guard but has a strong frame and lots of speed. He was really good against the two teams we watched where he was able to drive right and finish well at the rim. Can shoot a bit based on what we saw but more of that true lead guard who distributes with quick, physical drives.
Luke Lacey – 6’0 | PG | 2021 | Brownsburg (IN) | UA Grind 2021
Lacey was really good on Sunday when we watched. He’s not going to wow you with any one thing he does but he’s so solid across the board and really tough. Had multiple plays where he seemed to frustrate opposing players because he’s always into them defensively. Will be interesting to see how he develops because at times we have seen him be passive on offense and also aggressive. As long as it balances out and he’s productive, everything else he does will shine.
Lane Sparks – 6’1 | SG | 2021 | Greensburg (IN) | UA Grind 2021
Sparks is a solid combo guard who was a bit better with his ball handling and pressure this weekend than we have seen. He’s been more of an off-ball guard who can score it but thought he played a little more on the ball with his creation. He still really did a great job shooting the ball and was pretty solid when he decided to drive. This team should score well enough to allow him to do whatever he wants most of the time.
Blake Wesley – 6’2 | SG | 2021 | South Bend Riley (IN) | UA Grind 2021
Wesley is a long, rangy wing with a great frame. Maybe 6’2 but at least +4 long and his ball handling was really good, good enough to make a lot more plays than I expected. Looked like more of a shooter/slasher but he looks skilled enough to be able to develop pretty quickly. Had a really nice dunk as well in transition so for sure has the kind of athleticism you want to see. Need more looks but looks like next in line to take over at Riley next year.
Jayden Taylor – 6’3 | SG | 2021 | Perry Meridian (IN) | UA Grind 2021
Taylor was maybe the most impressive 2021 we saw this weekend. He’s a long athlete with tons of skill and the upside looks outstanding. He showcase a really good perimeter jumper that should be a key weapon and while really tall and lean, he’s definitely a guard with the handles and confidence he had. More put together than I thought he would be.
Darrius Washington – 6’7 | PF | 2021 | Fern Creek (KY) | UA Grind 2021
Darrius is a tall forward with great length and fairly mobile. Still pretty raw but foot speed and shot blocking ability should be there. Rotated pretty well and should help out well as a defender and rim protector early on. Good upside and has legit size while still being thin, that isn’t much of a concern. Need more of a look but his ability to step away from the rim and feel confident faced up was good. Will have to develop those skills to take advantage of that but it is there to look forward to.
