Prospect Spotlight: Eric Coleman (2019)
There’s some changes happening right now for 6-foot-7 wing Eric Coleman. One of the state’s top small forwards, and a Division I prospect, he’s changed schools and has an important 17U ahead of him as well.
A big and versatile wing, Coleman has transferred from King’s Ridge into Buford, where he;ll play his senior season. And the Wolves will be getting a prolific scorer with some improving defensive prowess.
“I feel like I’m a very good shooter, and I’m a pretty good ball-handler. And I’ve really improved on my defense, the last couple of months especially,” said Coleman.
“I’ve been working on my explosiveness and my scoring around the rim, so I can be an effective scorer at all three levels.”
As a junior at King’s Ridge, Coleman was great while averaging 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game.
“On my team, I was having to do a little bit of everything. I would rebound the ball and lead the break, and then getting my teammates involved,” said Coleman.
Now, he’s excited for a new opportunity to play at Buford; a bigger, public school.
“It’ll be fun to play under a coach that’s won a lot of championships. It was family decision to make the switch. It was a decision for school and it was a decision to go to a large, public school, since I’ve spent most of my life at a private school,” said Coleman.
“I’m just looking forward to meeting new people and all of that, as well as the basketball and athletics happen to be good there also.”
But before his senior season, Coleman will be spend his spring and summer playing 17U ball with the Atlanta All-Stars.
“We’ve already had our first tournament, and I’ve already seen a significant difference in how my defense has improved,” he said.
Already with offers from Western Carolina, Kennesaw State and Mercer, all of which offered last summer, Coleman’s recruitment is off to a nice start. He says Lipscomb, Furman, Wofford, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Georgia have reached out as well.
“It’s been really fun learning the whole recruitment process and having coaches reach out to me. I’m just starting to expand my relationships with them,” said Coleman.
“I’m just looking for a school where it will be a good fit, not only for academics, but for me as a player.”
