Prospect Update: Gabe Gallegos (2019)
After a junior season gaining experience as the sixth-man on one of the best teams in Idaho, Vallivue 6-foot guard Gabe Gallegos is excited for what the future holds.
A pull-up jumper, and an ability to get to the hoop is what Gallegos worked to improve this season. And he’ll be looking to showcase that spring and summer on the 17U circuit.
“Lately, I’ve been working on my pull-up jumper, so instead of being a knock-down catch and shooter, I want to get the ball more in my hands and pull-up off the dribble and stuff like that,” said Gallegos. “And I’ve been trying to slash a lot more and get to the hole and things like that.”
As the sixth-man for the Falcons, Gallegos gained some valuable experience on a state tourney team.
“This year didn’t go as I had planned, but it was a still a solid year. I got some good playing time, it was definitely a year to grow and improve. And we made it to state, so that was good,” said Gallegos.
“I’m super excited for next year, I feel like next year is going to be a big year for us. We were kind of young this year and I feel like we’ll make a run at state. And I know I’ll have a bigger role next year, and I’m ready to fill that in. I’m excited.”
In the meantime, Gallegos will spend his spring and summer with FLIGHT 17U.
“We’ve been looking really good in practice, and I’m excited to travel around and see some teams from other states. I know we’ll have a really solid AAU season,” said Gallegos.
“I want to play a lot more confident, and I want to just work on my overall skills; handling the ball, driving in, shooting and all that.”
It could be a big summer for his currently slow recruitment, too.
“I don’t have any offers or interest, but I’m sure they’ll come soon,” said Gallegos. “I think I am a little bit under the radar, but that’s fine, next year I know I’m going to have a solid year, and I’m excited about that.”
