Prospect Spotlight: Kayvon Alexander (2019)
Although it was his first year of playing high school basketball, 6-foot-4 forward Kayvon Alexander has already begun to make a name for himself.
And he’s hoping that this spring and summer on the 17U circuit, he can continue to gain momentum.
The Canyon Springs forward says he was cut from his freshman and sophomore teams, but came in and nabbed a sixth-man role as a junior with the Pioneers.
“I play on the wing sometimes, but for high school I play in the post. I like playing big and strong in the paint, and I’m an athletic player that can do more than people think I can do,” said Alexander.
“I’m a good defensive player all-around and I can shoot, but I don’t really shoot a lot. I like to go up and crash the boards.”
Alexander says he played starters minutes on a Canyon Springs team that advanced to the state tournament. Not bad for a guy playing his first year of high school ball.
This summer, he’s eager to keep improving and hopefully catch the attention of some college scouts.
“I’m looking forward to working hard and working on the things I need to get better at,” said Alexander.
He’ll be playing with 17U program LV Knights this spring and summer; it’s a team compiled of mostly Canyon Springs players.
“I’m looking forward to getting out there and getting exposure,” said Alexander. “Since this was my first year of playing high school basketball, nobody really knows about me. I just want to show people what I can do and what I’m capable of this spring and summer.”
