Prospect Spotlight: Dallin Grant (2021)
A top freshman in Utah, 6-foot-7 forward Dallin Grant was able to make his mark this season with the Cedar varsity, and should continue to make a name for himself this spring and summer on the 15U circuit.
Grant is a versatile threat, with great size, who is able to play a variety of positions. He explained to PHUT what it is that makes him such a dynamic young player.
“I’m able to exploit a lot of mismatches and take advantage of those, and I think I’m a good shooter for my size, and just overall have good skills,” said Grant.
“I like playing out on the perimeter better, but I can also go down and play with my back to the basket as well.”
The big and versatile forward averaged 10 points per game as starter with Cedar this season. He says he’s mostly happy with how he played, and he’s looking forward to an increased role as a sophomore.
“I felt like I was one of the main options playing on that team, and I just tried to get it done whenever I could. And just tried to make an impact,” said Grant.
“I thought I played pretty well. I maybe was a little bit hesitant at the beginning of the season, though. Next year, I’m just hoping to get my scoring averages up a quite a bit, and my rebounds up, and my assists up. And hopefully we can make state next year; that’s the goal.”
In the meantime, Grant will be playing with one of the area’s best teams, Exum Elite 15U. He says things have been going well so far in the early part of the spring.
“It’s been great playing with the older guys and some of the best players in Utah at practice. And it’s gotten me a lot better and made me realize what I need to work on this offseason,” said Grant.
“I’ll just be working on getting stronger and working on my ball-handling, and making sure I can finish through contact better than I have been.”
And although he’s still rather young, there’s a chance Grant could see his recruitment start to take shape this summer.
“Playing with Exum Elite will give me a lot of opportunity to get exposure,” Grant said. “And hopefully I can impress some scouts.”
