Springs Kickoff 17U All-Tourney Team
The Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff has finally concluded. We had over 150 teams compete in one of the best tournaments of the summer circuit and it brought out some big games in teams and players. Here is who made the 17U All-Tourney team.
Jon’il Fugett – Billups Elite
The element to Fugget’s game that jumps off the page is leadership. He’s one of those players that knows what it takes to win and it was on his shoulders that Billups Elite won the Summer Kickoff in what should be a very rewarding summer for this unit. He feeds the bigs, he controls the pace and scores when needed, but, the thing that was different about this tournament for him was his control. It was my first time seeing him as true point guard that didn’t look to score first and he exceled in this new role. He’s already one of the state’s best perimeter defenders, so matching that energy on the offensive end as well in a more comfortable role than he’s used to made him one of the best guards in the entire tournament this weekend. He’s an unsigned senior as of now, but one more big tournament, it’ll be impossible to keep coaches away.
Javen Udofia – Powerhouse NE
Udofia is a combo-guard that stood out as one of the best playmakers in the tournament. He has the versatility to either break the defender down and get into the lane where he can score or kick it off to the open man or knock down the jump shot from any distance. He has one of the smoothest floaters I’ve seen in person. He caused enough chaos for teams to have to adapt to and is a player you have to account for at all time, which opened up the court for other players or allowed him to get his own. He can score in bunches and is ultra-athletic which is menacing for opposing teams.
Lok Wur – Powerhouse NE
Wur made his presence known from start to finish. He’s a 6’8 power forward with the ability to change the game on the defensive end as his length creates many issues for opposing teams. His aptness to block shots and run the break after for an easy finish or dunk has him as one of the players with the highest ceilings. He can also shoot the ball and has soft touch around the rim that makes it more difficult for opposing teams to prepare for. He already has the size and with improved work on the offensive end, he’ll be a raw prospect that a DII or low major DI should take a flier on.
Dalen Ridgnal – KC Spurs
Ridgnal was impressive throughout the weekend. He’s the defensive anchor and their go to player in the half court set. He’s a high energy player that’s play is contagious as he jumpstarts the offense with his aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. His physical play leads to him dominating the boards and he’s fundamentally set which limits his mistakes. He takes what the defense allows and his mid-range pull up opens up the defense as he is dangerous in the open court and controls the pace while running the floor. This KC Spurs team will go as far as he allows them this summer and when he’s at his best, this team will be hard to beat.
Will Becker – Colorado Hawks
Will Becker is an unsigned senior as he just was granted his release from Binghamton that had himself quite the tournament. He was very active on the boards and used his size to his advantage as he dominated down low. He’s impressive as he shows that he can shoot the mid-range and that extends out to the three-point line, but also can get in the paint and score as he’s shown improvement from last summer to this summer as a back to the basket player. He’s athletic and has great mobility for a player of his size. This was a coming out party for what should be a summer full of college looks.
One additional:
Kobe Stroughter – Las Vegas Prospects
Kobe was a bright spot in the tournament as it was refreshing to see a younger player play with so much poise. He gets to where he wants to go and moves with purpose as he was one of the best ball handlers in the tournament. He is a fast guard with a quick first step that has the change of pace that teams have to adapt to. He can score but is also an above average passer that’s crafty on the fast break. This weekend was a weekend of getting his name out there as I think this is the point he takes off on the national scene. He’s a division I player.
