Recruiting Report: Nick Timmerman (2019)
After a very strong junior season with one of the very best 4A teams in Iowa, 6-foot-1 guard Nick Timmerman is a guy that could be flying under the radar a bit.
Timmerman is confident the recruitment will come, though. And his primary focus on on winning a state title with Dubuque, Senior next season.
“Recruitment really hasn’t picked up, and really my goal is to win state championship. And I know that if I do what I need to do and the team does what it needs to do, then the recruitment will come,” said Timmerman.
The Rams finished their season with a record of 18-5, and were ranked as PHIA’s No. 1 team for a good portion of that time. Timmerman averaged 12.3 points on some good shooting splits and pulled down 4.8 boards per game.
“Since last year, I really worked on my mindset, and I think this year, I played with a lot more confidence. I think that showed in my game with my shot-selection, when I was attacking the hoop a lot more,” said Timmerman.
“I think a lot of people viewed me as just a shooter, and I wanted to show that I could do other things. And I think that’s what I did best this year, was keep people on their toes.”
He added: “I often guarded the other team’s best players, and I liked that challenge. Offensively, I just needed to score and if Carter (Stevens) or Noah (Carter) were having a bad game, I’d turn and pick up some slack. But mostly, they were on, so I just picked up my 12 or 13 points per game.”
In years past, Timmerman has been a fixture on the Iowa Barnstormers’ 2019 unit. This year, he’s foregoing AAU ball, and will work out on his own in Dubuque with trainers and coaches.
“I’m just going to be working on my game with local coaches and up at the high school. I’ve been working on separation moves and just continuing to work on ball-handling,” said Timmerman who will be looking to improve his play-making ability.
“I know next year I’ll have the best players on the other team guarding me on the perimeter, so I’ll need to be able to create separation and get my shot off and handle the ball under pressure.”
Nick Timmerman is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 50 prospect in his class.
