Team Rose Classic: 2020 Evals Pt 2
PrepHoopsIllinois covered the Team Rose Classic over the weekend at Whitney Young High School. A lot of quality prospects in the house. We dive into the evaluations here with Part 2 of our 2020 Evaluations!
PG Na’Shawn Howze (Grinders 16U)
Howze is a new name that we added to our radar with his play. The Mooseheart point guard can really fill it up. Offensively he is a sound perimeter shooter especially pulling up from three in transition. Liked how he got after it on the defensive end with his active hands creating turnovers in both games we saw. Height is going to hold him back most likely from being more than a small college player.
PG Demari Waters (Grinders 16U)
Waters is a 5’10” point guard from Prosser that is a pesky on ball defender. Put pressure on opposing lead guard. Uses his speed in the open floor going coast to coast. Small college prospect.
SF Demarius Splunge (Team Rose 16U)
It was nice to see a better effort and more production out of this talented Orr top 10 2020 prospect than the weekend before. He has the physical tools with tremendous size, strength, and length on the perimeter. The question was would he bring the motor and he did. Splunge rebounded well on the interior, scored in transition, and had a couple quick buckets around the hoop. Splunge has mid-major talent.
PF Sangolay Njie (Team Rose 16U)
Njie struggled a week ago in Madison with his production. He brought the motor in his home gym. The Whitney Young 2020 four man is built with great strength and is a quality athlete. He brought the motor and because of that the numbers followed. Njie was assertive on the glass high pointing rebounds and snatching them with two hands. Showed his athleticism off above the rim with a poster dunk and another quick take from the mid-post that he finished with his left hand. When he plays with the energy he did in this contest he definitely brings something to the table! Njie had 13 points. Right now looks like a D2 prospect.
SG Dan Florey (Team Rose 16U)
Florey also had a nice bounce back weekend for Team Rose. The top 50 2020 prospect was finding his way a week ago and back in Chicago he seemed to find it. The skilled guard made a couple layups in the open floor and drilled a spot up three. That is what he is best at currently. Also his passing was impressive making several slick dishes for assists. Still needs to work on lateral quickness defensively. Florey is currently a D2 player.
SG Ramean Hinton (Team Rose 16U)
Hinton continues to impress this spring! The big and physical guard brings a lot of tools to the table and is in prime position to see a major jump from his current #16 spot in the rankings. This Curie guard can slash getting to the rack with consistency where he has the athleticism and strength to finish through or around defenders. Burst with the ball. Plus jump shooter that can definitely stretch it out to three. This kid brings it every game with his intensity. Mid-major player.
SF Jimarius Sneed (Team Rose 16U)
Sneed is a player that we were very impressed with a week ago. He is a rangy small forward from Crane with quick twitched athleticism. Solid performance in the game we saw as he hit a sweeping layup, finished an acrobatic up and under, along with getting on the glass throughout. Explosive second jumper. Defensively he has the tools. The jump shot could be more of a threat. He is a D2 kid that we could definitely see becoming a D1 player down the line.
SF Nate Santos (Chicago Elite 16U)
Santos is a long and rangy 6’6” small forward that is from Geneva. The 2020 wing ranks among the top 30 overall in his class and put together a nice day in the two games that we saw. Santos is a projectable wing with size, length, and athleticism. Smooth handling the ball both in transition and the half court. Hit jumpers from all over the floor with a clean looking stroke that he gets off with relative ease. He had several strong takes to the hoop where he either finished at the rim or got fouled. Skilled offensive threat that presents upside. Like him at the low-major plus level with mid-major upside.
PF Romelle Howard (Chicago Elite 16U)
Howard stands at 6’8” with strength and length on the interior. This Lincoln Park 2020 is a great area rebounder that snatches them in traffic with his strong hands. Efficient finishing around the hoop. Gets on the offensive glass for put backs. Tough and physical post with some upside. D2’s keep this post in mind!
PG Nate Shockey (Breakaway 16U)
Shockey is a lead guard from York that can really shoot the basketball. Hit an array of mid-range shots and threes in the game we saw. Tough kid that pushes the ball and makes some nice passes especially in the half court. Small college player that is a competitor.
PG Joey Tianen (Breakaway 16U)
This Niles Notre Dame lead guard that controlled the game for Breakaway. The 2020 PG handles it well. Crisp passer that made several outstanding dishes in the lane. Tianen showed the ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shot as well. Small college gem!
F Sam Ronneberg (Breakaway 16U)
Ronneberg is a combo forward that is best right now at stretching the floor with his perimeter shooting. He did that again at the Team Rose event. Projects as a D3/NAIA four man.
SG Darius Buford (Team RWA 16U)
We had heard some buzz about this 2020 shooting guard and he definitely has some game. Buford is a bouncy wing that gets in the lane where he finished with floaters or kicked to teammates for open looks. Also did a lot of scoring at the rim. Hit one three, but is more of a driving scorer at this stage. The Bolingbrook 2020 guard is a small college scoring guard.
PF Kaleb Fenelus (Team RWA 16U)
This big man from Plainfield North has some intriguing tools. Great size for his position and can stretch the floor hitting a baseline jumper and proved to be a sound area rebounder. One to continue to monitor as bigs develop late.
