Recruiting Report: Andy Stafford (2019)
With every viewing of Minnetonka 2019 wing Andy Stafford we’ve seen growth. Now he is growing with the Minnesota Fury this spring and summer.
Stafford was the 3rd/4th leading scorer each night for Tonka this year and he will return next year along with leading scorers Jalen Dearring and Cameron Steele.
“We had a alright season, we had our ups and downs but we learned for a lot from the whole season,” Andy said. “We definitely proved at times we can complete with anyone in the state, and how good we can really play when we are at our best. As a team we did reach a lot of goals we had and we improved a lot as the season went on.”
When it comes to Andy personally the word to describe him is “matured”. Over the past 24 months Stafford has matured in many different ways.
“I have seen a ton of improvement with my game over the years,” Andy said. “I was a 140 pound freshman with a sloppy jump shot and not very quick. Now I’m 185 pounds and I have seen my body and my game get a lot stronger. I feel more confident now with handling the ball and making plays for my teammates and myself.”
Stafford is playing with the Minnesota Fury this spring and summer and the team is off to a great start.
“We have a lot of talented guys and I’m excited to have a great season with them,” Andy said about the Fury team. “We have a great coach and a bunch of guys with very high basketball IQ and great skills. I’m looking forward to see how we progress from now to the end of July.”
Within that time colleges will continue to follow Stafford and his teammates to each event. The list of schools interested in Andy right now is a strong start and now he needs to continue to mature so these schools and likely others continue to follow Andy as the months move into the summer.
“I have talked to a couple schools so far,” Andy said. “I took a visit to Concordia St. Paul before the season and that was really cool. I have also heard from U of Sioux Falls, Winona State, and UW-Stout. I’m hoping I can have a strong summer and possibly get more looks.”
