2019 and 2020 Prospects You Should Know…
2019 and 2020 Prospects You Should Get to Know…
-
Eric Coleman
2019 Forward Eric Coleman (Buford [GA])
- Coleman had already drawn attention from the outside when he announced he’d be transferring to Buford high school from King’s Ridge several weeks ago. Now that he is locked in on an elite basketball program for his senior campaign, his play on the court can draw more attention. He was a man amongst boys in the games I saw him play at The Opening showcase, running with the Georgia Elite Ballers organization. Coleman is a legitimate 6’7” with long arms and a good handle on the perimeter. I enjoy his versatility as he is also able to bang with the big men inside, becoming a real asset on the glass for rebounding and second chance opportunities. He is a great passer and reminds me a lot of Kevin Love the way he can outlet passes to guards off the defensive rebound. He can comfortably take defenders off the bounce and consistently make plays above the rim. He has a high motor and should be a good pickup for the Buford Wolves who lost a lot from their elite 8 squad a season ago. Western Carolina, Mercer, and Kennesaw State have offered.
Jordan Brown
- 2019 Guard Marcus Foster (Drew Charter [GA])
- Foster was one prospect that benefited the most from the dead period these past two weekends, from not many knowing who he was last Friday to a lot of people coming away impressed by this past Sunday. The rising senior got it done on all levels offensively, particularly in the match-up against a talented Georgia South team at The Opening. He controlled the pace with his ball handling ability, had a nice array of moves when gathering at the basket, and knocked down several perimeter shots when presented the opportunity. Foster has great size at 6’4” and uses his long arms to steal or deflect passes which led to good things offensively last weekend as well. Fresh off a visit from Alabama and Georgia, Foster is one to watch as the live period approaches and more coaches can witness his ability.
- 2019 Guard Jordan Brown (Westover [GA])
- When discussing some of the best skilled players in middle Georgia, Brown has to be apart of the conversation. The Westover point guard has the best range of arguably any shooter in the state and his craftiness off the pick and roll are top notch as well. He can break just about any defender down off the dribble to get to his spot in the midrange area and he does a good job of getting into the paint for floater and tough lay-up opportunities. He is a great spot up shooter and does a good job of pump faking defenders, putting the ball on the floor once or twice, and resetting for wide open jump shots from multiple areas on the court. Coming off a 15.5ppg junior season, Brown has all the tools offensively to play at the next level and has been on the radar to do so since the 7th grade. He continues to impress and if he continues to play with a chip on his shoulder throughout the spring and summer periods, more offers should be on the way. Southeastern Louisiana has offered him already.
- 2019 Guard Jadakiss Wright (Silver Bluff [SC])
- Eager to see several non-peach state prospects, Wright caught my eye running with the Upward Stars-Riverfront organization out of North Augusta, South Carolina. The Silver Bluff guard is a knock down shooter from three point range and he proved that in the matchup I saw at The Opening showcase, connecting on four 3-pointers for a 14 point first half output. Wright is a combo guard that can handle the basketball from the point guard position as well, making plays for others. He has a stocky frame and stands 6’2” which benefits him when the floor opens up because of that outside shooting ability. The Upward Stars are a program that will see a lot of good competition over the summer and his production against those teams could prove favorable for his collegiate future.

Antwan Burnett
2020 Wing Antwan Burnett (Sidney Lanier [AL])
- Shooting and athleticism, you can’t ask for much more when looking for a big time wing prospect on the basketball floor. That combination is exactly what you’re getting in Burnett who looked solid in a 25 point performance over the weekend at the Tip-Off Classic in Suwanee, Georgia. The Nightrydas Elite guard scorched the net with three triples in the first half, two on back to back possessions, that didn’t even touch the rim. He used that shooting performance to open up his opportunities at the rim in the second half for a complete performance against a solid Under Armor Association Atlanta Xpress 16U squad. Burnett possesses the entire package and scoring a season high 43 points in a prep season game late last year, scoring in bunches isn’t unfamiliar territory for him.
- 2020 Guard DJ Wright (Greene County [GA])
- As a coach, you love to see kids that get after it regardless of the score; that was something that I saw in the Greene County point guard DJ Wright. Every time he steps on the floor he is pedal to the medal and he is looking to come out victorious in whatever role he is involved in. That tenacity and competitiveness combined with his skillset displayed at The Opening showcase are reasons to take an early look at the rising junior. Running with the 2020 Club Orange organization, he was quick in everything that he did on the floor. Hasty crossovers, swift moves to the basket, and a rapid release off the bounce from the three point or mid-range area allows him to effect the game scoring wise or assist wise from the extra attention received from help defenders. With two more prep and travel seasons ahead of him, it will be interesting to see if he grows from his current 5’8” frame because he can be a legitimate mid to high major Division-I prospect by his senior season.
