Recruiting Report: Logan Wolf (2019)
Though his football recruitment is starting to heat up, it seems Logan Wolf’s basketball recruitment has been a bit underwhelming.
Even after playing a key part in helping Cedar Falls win their first-ever state title — he averaged 13 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season, and led the team in assists, steals and blocks — it’s only been Division III schools that have shown hoops interest.
“I’ve heard from a couple smaller D3 schools. I’m open to everything; I love basketball, and I love football. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do.”
“I’m just going to go through my summer, see which opportunities come up, and go from there.”
Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State and North Dakota have all offered the wide-receiver for football.
He says it’s possible that basketball programs have seen the attention he’s getting for football, and might assume that’s the route he’ll for sure take. It’s not, though. Wolf is still wide-open with his recruitment.
“It’s a possibility, I think, that because since I did pick up the football offers maybe schools don’t see that I could possibly be a Division I basketball player, which I could see myself doing,” said Wolf.
“It’s a possibility that’s what’s contributing to why I haven’t seen as much interest for basketball. But, I mean, I’m still open to everything. I’m just going to be wading through all that happens and seeing what happens and going with it.”
Wolf certainly looked like a Division I caliber basketball player at times during the state tournament last month. He was terrific all week for the Tigers during the title run.
“This year, I thought I really improved as a facilitator and as a scorer. I thought my overall game improved; I became a better defender and game in and game out I was guarding the other team’s best player, and I took a lot of pride in that,” said Wolf, who mentioned what it was like playing alongside Iowa high school hoops legend, AJ Green.
“Playing with AJ was an incredible experience. He’s an incredible player and a great guy. It was fun getting to know him. He pushed me everyday in practice and I really learned a lot from him.”
Wolf added: “Winning the state title was an incredible experience for everyone on our team. I know AJ wanted it, I wanted it, it was awesome we could do it together and he could go out with a bang and make history at Cedar Falls.”
Logan Wolf is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 20 prospect in his class.
Now, the 6-foot-5 wing is playing his offseason with Iowa Barnstormers 17U. He’s hoping that with some more tourney wins — they won their first tourney of the spring, The Rock Classic in Madison, WI — that he and his teammates can see that hoops recruitment spike.
“This year we’re out to prove something; we lost a couple guys and gained some new additions. With everything that happened (regarding former program director Greg Stepehen), it was good to get that first tournament under our belt, and win that one in Madison,” said Wolf.
“Our guard play is great, we play fast and I think we’re going to win a lot of games this spring and summer.”
