Five Unsigned Seniors in the Spring Kickoff
While there were plenty of young and upcoming talent showcasing their abilities and making a name for themselves at the Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff, there were also seniors that went unsigned that used this as an opportunity to build. Here’s who stood out on Saturday.
Duke Carey – Pluto Prospects
Duke showcased some of the same things that he did at Doherty. A very quick, pass first guard that is shifty enough to get pass the defender into the teeth of the defense and either drop it off to the open man or finish. He has a good feel for what the defense is giving him and is active on the defensive end as well.
Tucson Redding – Colorado Hawks
The Hawks had multiple teams in the tournament, but this one stood out. They had a few unsigned seniors on the team, amongst them was Tucson who at times appears unguardable. He is a high IQ player that can shoot the ball, finish at the rim and also defends at a high level. Schools at the JUCO, NAIA, & D3 level should all give him a look as he could be a nice pickup this late in the game.
Daijon Smith – Colorado Hawks
His strength and athletic ability are what catch your attention most. He’s a defender that can stay in front of smaller guards as well as go inside and bang in the post if needed. He shot the ball well as well as led the charge on the defensive end in which his team rallied behind him. One of the attributes that stand out most is his confidence as he truly feels as if he’s the best player on the court each time out. He’s a player that might have to go the JUCO, NAIA or D2 route but he has the making to eventually play D1.
Tre Pierce – Colorado Hawks
It’s starting to seem as if I’m just going after all of the Colorado Hawks players, but they had multiple teams with unsigned senior standouts. Tre was one of them as he can absolutely change the outcome of the game all on the defensive end of the floor. He has a high motor and runs the break as well as any player. He has soft touch around the rim and also is developing an offensive game which will be a steal for any college that gets him. One of the main standouts of the tournament.
Branden Bunn – Colorado Mayhem
Branden is smooth. He’s coming off of a breakout senior campaign and in the Spring Kickoff showcased his great feel for the game. He does a great job at getting to the bucket in transition as well as in the half court set. He is a strong defender and a great facilitator. Wherever he ends up, he is bound to make a college coach very happy with his work ethic and ability to score in various ways.
