Prep Hoops Kickoff — Top Slashers
The Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff got started and brought out one of the most overlooked aspects in basketball, slashing. Here were the players that stood out on Saturday.
Christian Speller – Colorado Miners
He’s a wiry player with elite athleticism and also has the ability to create for others but is usually on the receiving end of a good pass as he’s able to go straight up for easy baskets. He showcased that he could be a primary ball handler or play off ball which displays how versatile a player he is.
Ty Robinson – Colorado Hawks
Ty was one of the most athletic players in the Kickoff this weekend and looks as if he’ll dominate the 15U scene this summer. He gets to the rim as well as anybody and has good hand-eye coordination that makes it easier for guards to feed him as he makes his way to the basket. Ty is a player that attacks the basket and will continue to make this Colorado Hawks team one of the more dangerous teams in the state.
Caleb McGill- Colorado Chaos
Caleb is a big man with mobility that slices to the rim with purpose. When he’s aggressive he’s at his best. He can hit the mid-range jump shot as well as finish at the rim and he showed both on Saturday which created havoc for opposing big men. I personally love Caleb’s game.
Qua’Vez Humphreys – SSA Elite
Although it came in a loss, Qua’Vez made his presence known. He’s a defensive minded player that changed virtually every shot at the rim as he finished against the Colorado Chaos with five blocks, two of them came back to back. With his defense he opened up opportunities offensively and got to the rim with ease. He’s a two-way player that’ll have to work polish his offensive game a bit more, but slashing wasn’t one of those things.
Jaden Gale – Billups Elite
For Jaden to be such a big guard he is really crafty and has great body control as he maneuvers all opposing team’s defenders on the way to the rim. He owns the space underneath and has great awareness of how to get to the rim with the ball or get a feel for when he’s off ball.
