15U/16U AM Best of the Best
The Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff got started on Friday evening with a great slate of games, but, Saturday morning brought out some of the best performances. Here is who stood out most in with our fun categories.
A walking bucket: For the Colorado Hawks, it seemed as if it did whatever they wanted in a HUGE win because, well, they did. They started the game up 18 points before the other team scored and it was because they turned the team over on every possession as well as scored at ease. One of the biggest standouts of the morning was Devin Carter. This was our first time seeing him in a while. He shot the ball, defended and finished at the rim exceptionally well and was a huge reason for the team’s win.
From downtown: Cade Palmer from the Colorado Miners had himself a game from beyond the arc as he knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half alone which secured the victory for his team. He has a great feel for the game and knows how to get to his spots he feels most comfortable where he’s able to knock down the open shot or create off of the dribble.
Not in here: Luke Moerman of Pluto Prospects is a player with great size, but also has the lateral quickness to be able to either get the block or change the shot. He made sure to make his presence known early as he recorded three blocks in the first five minutes of the game against the Force. He uses his long slender frame to box out and doesn’t allow players around him, has the ability to change outcomes of games.
On the boards: Charles Snyder for SSA Elite is an aggressive big man that uses his size to move smaller players around. He boxes out and has a high enough motor that creates many second-chance opportunities for his team. He finishes well at the basket and has a soft touch around the rim as well. This big man from Emporia High School is raw with a high ceiling.
Lockdown: Hez Swanson from Colorado Hawks didn’t allow any offensive player that stepped in front of him to do ANYTHING. He was all over the offensive player the second that they stepped over the half-court line and suffocated them with his perimeter defense. He plays the passing lane well and is the defensive general on the court.
