There are many areas and hotbeds of talent in the state and we want to take a little bit more of a microscope to them to see what the nuances of the state will produce in each class. This is our look at Region 1 in Northwest Indiana.

Breakdown: While we are finishing up our look at the 2019 class, the regional breakdowns will give us a better look as the class as a whole. With regards to the Northwest part of the state in 2019, you have a better and deeper group than normal. Not a ton of high-end talent past Brandon Newman and Ethan Brittain-Watts, however, there is quite a bit of talent just below them that could take a step forward and push that next tier.
Amari Sherrod playing with SYF could give him a few more looks, Noah Applegate and Maurion Martin have a chance to do the same with GAME. Really like Will Penny as a guy to break out this summer if he can be consistent. Other guys to really take a deep look at would be Kyron King, Nelson Mbongo, and Corey Landers. King is a solid lead guard with some upside, Mbongo has really started to put all of his tools together, and Landers just needs a little more shine.
As for the depth at each level, here is our breakdown: Tier 1 (HM-MM): #1-2, Tier 2 (LM-DII): #3-8, Tier 3 (DII-NAIA): #9-13, Tier 4 (NAIA-DIII): #14-29
The level of talent in the two middle tiers is pretty big. You have 11 players in that area that could fit from Low-Major programs to high-level NAIA teams. There is a lot of upside in that group and as always, that is the group that will have the most fluctuation this summer. Things will get ironed out but I wouldn’t be shocked if a small handful jump up a level.
There is quite a bit of size in this group as well. Plenty of post options for teams in their area with guys like Cameron Koschnic, Joe Andershock, Richard Balckom, and Noah Applegate. You also have some of the better guards options as well with Colin Kenney, Drew Lutz, and Maurion Martin. You have a little bit of everything. Maybe a lack of true 5’s but options nonetheless to get in on.
