Prospect Spotlight: Isaac Mongomery (2021)
A 5-foot-11 guard from Vanden, Isaac Montgomery is one of the up-and-coming freshman Northern California has to offer.
He’s already got a season of varsity ball under his belt, and he’s hoping to take that experience and carry it into his spring and summer.
We recently caught up with the talented freshman, and he defined his playing style, strengths and weaknesses.
“I’m an athletic point guard, I like to get to the rim. And I can pass a little bit, too, and have a cool mid-range game,” said Montgomery.
“I need to work on my left hand and my 3-point shooting.”
As a freshman he started a couple games, but primarily came off the bench for the Vikings.
“My role was to bring energy whenever I got on the court, play defense, and just give 100 percent whenever I was out there,” said Montgomery.
“I came off the bench and just spent the season learning how to play the game at a higher pace, and things like that.”
As a sophomore next season, Montgomery says his role will be much-increased. He’s greatly looking forward to the challenge.
“Next year, I’m looking forward to being a leader,” he said. “And helping to make sure we advance farther than we did this season as a team.”
But before his sophomore season, Montgomery has what could be a breakout spring and summer with Arsenal 15U. It’ll be his first year with the adidas-sponsored program.
“I’m just trying to have a good summer,” he said. “Of course, I want to go to college and play ball, and hopefully there’s some college coaches around checking us out. And if I play good, hopefully more (coaches) will come.”
