Class 2A may be the toughest class to get to the state title game and is certainly one of the deepest classes with multiple 1A powers moving up and even a 3A team moving down.
State Champions
Riverside has won 3 straight 2A state titles and return seniors Malik Crowfield and Herb McGee who look to make it four in a row. 2018 PG Jared Butler will be a key contributor to a team that is always loaded with talent. They'll play a tough schedule again as well.
Madison Prep won the 1A state title last year and returns a host of seniors that includes Yuryk Lazard, William Lloyd and numerous guards. They will be powered by 2017 Josh Anderson and a trio of 2018's in Josh Leblanc, Kobe Julien, and Jharon Whitfield. Chargers' coach Jeff Jones told us, “This is probably the toughest schedule we've played since I've been here.”
The Challengers
Rayville comes down from 3A after earning the #2 seed in the State Playoffs last season and will surely be a challenger in 2A while Country Day joins Madison Prep from 1A as a team to watch. Country Day has 2016 Michael Corchiani and 2017 Romin Williams in the backcourt.
Nationally ranked Robert Williams (2016 F) plays his ball at North Caddo and they will not be an easy out. Lakeview has some serious size with 2016s Adrio Bailey and Cameron Pottain so they have to be considered as well. Episcopal always ends up with a top 4 seed under coach Chris Beckman Sr. whose son Chris Beckman Jr. is a senior who most teams try to faceguard. He'll need 2017 Kevin Tripeaux to play up to his potential and do so consistently like he did once healthy this summer.
Episcopal's rival Dunham has a host of young talent that includes the #1 player in 2019 in Jordan Wright. 2016 Guard Trey Scott will need to be a real leader on this young team. Archbishop Hannan was a 9 seed in 2A last year and has 2016s Patrick Bossetta and Noah Griffin. Griffin was once a D1 commit who has improved each year.
