Live Period Lookout
The April live period for college coaches to take an evaluation of players is approaching and in this column we are taking a look at some prospects that should be getting some of those looks.
Ben Beeker-6’9, 2019 F Team Loaded NC-The big man has had a good few games in the first couple weeks of the live period and has been getting some attention on twitter. He is a skilled big man that can shoot the ball out to the three-point line and can grab rebounds. He is long and athletic, runs the floor well and can block shots. He is able to get good position down low and it is an easy basket or it is a going to be a foul on the defense. He excels at the free-throw line and in the classroom. He holds a 4.0 GPA and I would not be surprised if some Ivy League schools jumped in on the big man.
Jalen ConeCamren Hayes-6’2, 2020 PG Team CP3-Long athletic point guard who is arguably one of the best point guards in the 2020 class in this state. Hayes has tremendous court vision and can score the ball from all areas on the floor. Camren currently holds 4 D1 offers. WCU, Hampton, IUPUI and North Florida.
Jacobi Wright-5’10, 2021 G Team Cp3 15U-High basketball IQ; makes good decisions; sets up teammates; smooth game; scorer; good feel for the game; can score off the dribble; can score out to the three-point line.
Jalen Cone-5’10, 2020 PG Team Loaded NC-Cone is naturally a point guard, he is an elite level athlete, he can facilitate the fast break, rebound, take over a game at will and has a very high basketball IQ for his age. He can play all three perimeter positions and is a defensive hound that has a great frame that allows him to guard all three positions. He is a little undersized with the size of today’s college PG’s but makes up for it with elite athleticism.
Jae’lyn Withers-6’9, 2019 F Team Loaded NC-One of the best shooters for a kid his size in the state. Withers has college three-point range and is a long athlete. He is the son of former Charlotte star Curtis Withers and the basketball genes follow right along to him. Withers is a solid rebounder who can stretch the defense with his shooting ability.
Evan Johnson-6’2, 2020 G Team CP3 16U-Johnson is one of the best shooters in the state regardless of class, he’s been logging major mins on the varsity level for the past two years and has been very productive. Understands how to get his shot of quickly and over taller opponents. He is a poised underclassman who can score from all spots on the floor. His brother Eric played at Boston University. He currently holds offers from Hampton and Penn State.
