Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff: Saturday 16U AM Standouts
This is by no means a comprehensive list but here are some guys that garnered some attention with their play Saturday morning at the Santa Fe Family Life Center.
Ryan Gordon (2020) All-Arkansas Red 16U- Little Rock Parkview High School
Ryan willed All-Arkansas to victory against the Texas Tigers 16U team and did it with his scoring and rebounding. At 6’4” he is certainly not the biggest on the talented All-Arkansas team but was a nice complement to Mason Matthews who had a big second half. Ryan was also a factor in their opening loss against the Nike Pro Skills OK 16U team that was versatile and deep.
Mason Matteson (2020) Oklahoma Wolfpack 16U- Edmond North High School
Mason had a big morning with the Oklahoma Wolfpack, accounting for about half of their points in their tight matchup with Dallas Showtyme Select 16U. He was able to penetrate and get to the line numerous times as the Wolfpack pulled out the win.
Devin Carter (2020) Colorado Hawks 16U- Creek High School
Devin is an explosive athlete who was effective on the fast break for the Hawks in their matchup v Dallas Showtyme Gold. He was active on defense as the Hawks pressured the ball a lot and showed his ability to step out and shoot when needed as well.
Mason Matthews (2020) All-Arkansas Red 16U- Greenbriar High School
Mason had two solid games Saturday morning and a very big second half in All-Arkansas’s victory over Texas Tigers 16U. At 6’8” he was able to use his size to impact rebounding in a big way, providing numerous second-chance opportunities in both games.
He was also a nuisance in the paint on defense, using his length to disrupt and block shots in both games.
Shawn Warrior (2020) Kansas Pray and Play 16U- Wichita Southeast High School
Shawn played a great game Saturday morning scoring in transition, off the dribble, and from beyond the arc. Despite having a smaller frame than some prospects at his talent level, he can finish versus contact well and attacks the rim well throughout the game scoring 20 points in their victory over the Edmond Ballers.
Paul Otieno (2020) KC Pacers Blue 16U- Sunrise Christian Academy
Paul showed his ability to rebound and block shots early in the day for the KC Pacers. He is a motored up undersized big man at 6’6” who is comfortable in the paint and really went off in the KC Pacers second game of the day, totaling 24 points.
