Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff: Friday 17U Standout Guards 6 feet and under
Height definitely isn’t everything in a prospect. Here are some of the 17U guard standouts from the games I was able to view Friday night.
Moun’Tae Edmundson (2019) Game Changers 17U- Centennial High School
Moun’Tae displayed good ball handling and maintained composure against full-court pressure Friday night. He also hit a few shots down the stretch in the most entertaining game of the evening as the Game Changers fell just short against Dallas Showtyme Elite.
Nate Davis (2018) Warriors 17U- Centennial High School
Nate came on strong Friday night using his ability to get past his primary defender and into the defense to his advantage.
With strong ball control and a good ability to shoot, Nate showed his playmaking capabilities, accounting for a large part of the offense in the second half of the game against the Texas Tigers 17U team.
Keyon Thomas (2019) KC Spurs 17U- Bonner Springs High School
Keyon was recently named as an all-state athlete at Bonner Springs and proved tonight that his talent would still shine through in grassroots basketball.
He looked very comfortable being a facilitator and scorer as he took care of the ball Friday night and generally made very sound/smart decisions.
Mikel Henderson (2019) KC Spurs 17U- Lee’s Summit North
Mikel didn’t show up huge in the box score but still had a big impact for the KC Spurs Friday night. He showed a strong ability to move laterally and provide good on-ball defense. Offensively, he showed a good burst when driving to the hoop and an ability to shoot as well.
Cobe Williams (2019) Dallas Showtyme Elite 17U- Dallas Can Academy
Cobe was the main contributor to Showtyme’s offense Friday night as he lived in the lane and had many opportunities at the rim. He did have his fair share of shots at the rim not go down for him but he had a lot of opportunities and created those off the dribble.
Cobe seems to have a great motor as he was active and energetic on the defensive end as well, keeping high energy levels throughout the game.
Connor Norman (2018) Warriors 17U- Frontier High School
Connor showed his ability to be a threat from downtown as he hit multiple catch and shoot threes for the Warriors on Friday night. He showed a lot of confidence and while his opportunities were not abundant Friday night, he shot a very high percentage.
