Capital Hoop Fest Friday Standouts
OLNEY, MD — Elevate Hoops always does a great job getting a solid field for Capital Hoop Fest, and this year was no different. Here we recap Friday’s action by taking a brief look at just eight of many standout performers.
LINCOLN BALL | WILLIAMSPORT ’20/17U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Lincoln Ball can go. The 6’4 guard, who stood out last fall at the top 250, is probably one of the more improved players in the state of Maryland. and looked really comfortable scoring the ball off the dribble and from the catch from the perimeter in a big time matchup with District 17U.
CAMERON BROWN | ELEANOR ROOSEVELT ’19/17U DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Local mid major programs should be all over Cameron Brown. The versatile wing, who has grown to 6’5 from 6’3 at this time last year, will be a problem once he can tighten up his ball handling skills.
DANIEL DEAVER | MARSHALL ’19/17U NOVA CAVALIERS
Daniel Deaver owned the boards in his team’s win over a solid Mid Atlantic Select Blue team. The 6-foot-7 forward, who is reportedly receiving interest from Army, scored a team-high 23 points.
WADE JACKSON | GONZAGA ’20/16U DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Wade Jackson looked familiar when we saw him knock down jumper after jumper in his team’s win over 16u NOVA Cavs on Friday evening. That’s because we’ve seen him do it in multiple games with Gonzaga’s JV team this pas season. Jackson looks like he could be the real deal.
DARIUS MADDOX | ST. JOHN’S ’20/16U TEAM DURANT
Durant 16’s are playing up against 17U teams at Capital Hoop Fest, but Darius Maddox wasn’t affected by that at all. He’s a graceful athlete with size, and the potential to be a terrific scorer at the next level.
WILL MILLER | MT. CARMEL ’18/17U CHARM CITY CRUSADERS
Will Miller stood out despite his team’s poor collective performance on Friday Night. The unsigned senior, who knocked down four threes in the first half, was also aggressive in transition off the bounce.
MATT ROGERS | GORETTI ’20/16U MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Don’t leave Matt Rogers open in the high post area. This is because he is almost automatic from that spot on the floor. The long-limbed forward also worked hard to help his team control the boards in a comfortable win.
COLLIN SCHLEE | OAKDALE ’19/MID ATLANTIC SELECT
Collin Schlee impressed in a variety of areas in his team’s win over the District. The most memorable play he had was certainly the chase down block when he swatted an opponents layup attempt. Schlee can score from the perimeter, as we saw throughout the contest, but he also mixed it up nicely inside the arc.
