17U Run-Through: North Dakota Attack
This weekend the North Dakota Attack kicks off their year in the Comets Shootout in St. Cloud and today PHD gives you a look at the Attack’s 17u squad.
The Roster. Coach Taylor Jones of the Attack has nine players from North Dakota that range from 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-7. Two of the players are from the Class A level and seven of them are from the Class B level of play.
The Schedule. The Attack has an event schedule of seven events starting this weekend in St. Cloud. When the open period begins at the end of the month the Attack will play both weekends: one in the Spring Jam in Sioux Falls, and the other will be the Prep Hoops Proving Grounds in Minneapolis. The Attack will then have a few weeks off before they play in the ECI Spring Preview which should give the state a chance to see Attack vs ECI at least once this year. Then in the summer the Attack will play in the Great Plains Alliance in St. Cloud, in the Summer Slam in Sioux Falls, and in the D1 Summer Classic in Minneapolis.
The All State Talent. Bishop Ryan 6-foot-2 guard Ben Bohl and 6-foot-7 forward from Dalton Albrecht of Grafton Area were both Class B All State second team performers this year and they will lead this team.
Ben Bohl was one of the state’s best juniors and he led his squad to the state runner-up position. Bishop Ryan put up a 25-3 record with Ben recording 20 points, 7.5 boards, and three assists a game. Dalton Albrecht led his team to a 20-win season (on a top ten team in state) with Dalton putting together a double-double average of 20 points and 10 rebounds a game.
From Class A. Mandan six-foot guard Trey Wiest and Grand Forks Central 6-foot-4 forward Chris Demuth are the Class A level guys on the Attack. Trey gave his team 9.4 points per game shooting 78 percent from the foul line and making a third of his treys. Wiest also averaged 3.5 assists per contest. Demuth scored 12.8 points per game for Central while also grabbing 6.3 rebounds each game.
The Thompson Pair. Thompson won 19 games this year and a key reason for another season was the play of 6-foot-5 Hayden Overby and 5-foot-10 Cadyn Schwabe. Each night when you went through the results the first line would ready “Thompson was led by Oberby followed by Schwabe” or vice versa. Schwa scored 15 points a game shooting over 50 percent from the floor plus gave his team five assists and four steals a contest. Overby put up 13.5 points, nine boards, and three assists a game shooting 56 percent from the floor.
Three that are 6-foot-3. Six-foot-3 Jamison Kramer of LaMoure-Litchville/Marion, 6-foot-3 Cody Perkins of Mott-Regent, and 6-foot-3 Stanley guard Seth Hetzel make up the rest of the team and all of them stand the same size. Seth scored 13.7 points per game for Stanley becoming a reliable player in the rotation of one of the state’s better teams.
