2018 Final Rankings: Top 5 Point Guards
The final rankings for the class of 2018 are out. Here are the top 5 point guards from the classification. These guards are extremely skilled and have a lot of next level applicability.
2018 Final Rankings: Top 5 Point Guards
Sam Beskind 6’2 PG Catalina Foothills (Stanford)
Beskind recently appeared on our top stock risers list as well. In the process of raising his stock considerably, he became the top point guard in the class. While this class does not have the same top tier point guards as the 2017 class, which had multiple NCAA Division-I point guards, Beskind is still a top tier guard. I love his size and strength. Further, he uses those features well as he is immensely skilled and has a high basketball IQ.
Tashon Brown 5’11 PG Paradise Valley
Brown is one of the most skilled guards in the state at using on-ball screens. He is extremely patient and makes great reads. Throughout the season, he experienced teams trying many things to limit his production using on-ball screens. Largely, it was not effective as Brown navigated Paradise Valley to the final four. In addition to being one of the best guards at using on-ball screens, he is one of the most clutch scorers in the state. When things looked bleak against Deer Valley, he did all he could to will PV to OT with the eventual state runner up.
Josh Johnson 5’7 PG Maricopa
Johnson might be the best hidden talent in the state. He is elusive and scores the basketball and an extremely high level. In fact, he has averaged over 25 points per game the past two seasons. He is quick and creative. Moreover, his change of direction and elite level speed make him a handful. He is capable of shooting the basketball from anywhere on the court and does it with absolutely no fear. If he is left open, he makes the defense pay. Questions about who he can guard due to his size have arisen. However, he is a warrior who plays with a lot of grit. Further, the opposing team needs to find someone who is capable of staying in front of him.
Mark Hatch 6’0 PG Mesa
The lefty guard has good court vision and is a precise passer. Further, he is extremely patient and makes good decisions with the basketball. In addition, he is a knockdown shooter. His mid-range jumper is smooth and consistent. It is also worth noting that shoots the basketball well from deep and is a tough defender. Mesa will miss Hatch due to his toughness and high basketball IQ.
Jordan Green 6’3 PG Cienega
Green is a long and athletic guard. His ability to get into the paint and use his length to finish makes him an intriguing prospect. In addition to finishing well, he has good instincts which enables him to find the open man. Moreover, he is a skilled passer who puts his guys in good spots to finish. He is also a capable shooter from deep and from mid-range.
