Recruiting Report: Ethan Helwig (2019)
PrepHoopsIllinois recently caught up with Metea Valley small forward Ethan Helwig who is a top 25 prospect in the 2019 class. The wing is a thin kid that has some length. Plays well in the open floor scoring in transition. . Acceleration with the ball in his hands. Needs to add more strength to consistently finish better in the paint. Low-major prospect.
How was his high school season?
“We had some ups and downs throughout the whole season. We ended up being 7-1 at home which is really good. Our conference is known as being one of the best in the state. We beat Wheaton South at home. All together it was a great experience. I got to play with four great seniors which made it fun.”
What improved the most as a junior?
“I think my attitude got better. I used to whine for calls, but my coach has been talking about how he would take me out every time I do that. I averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds during the season.”
When looking at his game what are his strengths?
“I can shoot the ball pretty well. That is my strongest point of my game. I can go to the rim.”
Nothing significant on the recruiting trail right now for Helwig. Expect that to pick up as he plays with the Illinois Stars 17U this spring.
