Icebreaker (2019) Standouts
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top performers from the 2019 class who played this past weekend at the Icebreaker Invitational.
DJ Burns – York Prep – Georgia Stars
Burns has really slimmed down his frame since the beginning of the season. Burns a left-handed post player plans on visiting Tennessee in the near future. Burns finished everything around the cup today and possesses great footwork in the paint. Over the past few days York Prep has parted ways from Head Coach Frank Hambrick.
Trae Hannibal – Hartsville HS – Carolina Wolves 17
Hannibal is a explosive guard who really can get to the basket. Hannibal rebounds the ball very well for a guard and tends to bully other guards on the floor. Hannibal has received interest from College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina University, Oklahoma State, Stetson, South Carolina State and Western Carolina.
Dallaz Corbitt – Gray Collegiate – Carolina Wolves 17 (pictured on front)
Corbitt helped the War Eagles win a Class 2A State Championship this season. Corbitt a strong forward still has room to improve with his skill set. Corbitt runs the floor very well and looks like he could be playing TE/DE on the gridiron. Corbitt still is scratching the surface of his talent.
Jadakiss Wright – Silver Bluff HS – Upward Stars Riverfront
Wright played last season with Aiken Select. Wright a combo guard seems to be more comfortable the ball. Wright connected on a few three pointers today and played some solid defense in leading the Upward Stars Riverfront to victory. Wright likes to sit in the corners for open looks.
Latrell Taylor – Keenan HS – Team Wall SE- Columbia 2019
Taylor a guard knocked down some mid-range jumpers and was able to get to the basket today for Team Wall SE-Columbia. Taylor made solid some passes along with playing the passing lanes well.
** Note here Team Wall SE-Columbia didn’t have their new uniforms so they were wearing some old J7O gear. I hadn’t seen that gear in quite awhile. J7O – Jermaine O’Neal – former Eau Claire HS (Columbia, SC) player declared for the NBA Draft back in 1996 – played 18 years in the NBA with 8 different teams.
Trey McGowens – Hargrave Military Academy (VA) – Georgia Stars
McGowens told Prep Hoops that he will remain in the 2019 class. McGowens a quick moving combo guard currently has over 30 college scholarship offers. McGowens has the ability to create his own shot or for others quite easily on the floor. McGowens got to the rack when he wanted to in the game vs Team Power and finished with 19 points in the victory. McGowens is originally from Piedmont, SC and attended Wren HS before going to Hargrave Military Academy last fall.
