Prospect Spotlight: Darrion Trammell
San Francisco is home to one of the most underrated floor generals in Northern California. The player also known by some as The Little Monster, has an elite handle and lethal change of speed that gets fans out of their seats. I had the opportunity to speak with the point guard in depth and will share insight as to why this is without question a guard that college coaches need to be looking at.
How did your football background influence your game?
Football really increased my ability to change directions quickly and also helped me play off of my instincts instead of being a robot. It also made me fearless and tougher being an undersized guard.
What motivates you to succeed at this game?
I’m motivated by the fact that I am highly underrated because of my size. Because of that, I’m forced to be twice as skilled as anyone on the court.
You’re known for your elite dribbling, but what’s a quality of your game that is a little underrated?
No one really notices my ability to set screens. I feel like I’m a great screen setter that leads to my teammates getting open looks.
Where was your favorite gym to play at and why?
I loved playing at ArchBishop Mitty because for some reason the basket felt bigger than regulation size to me. I’ve had my best games at Mitty.
Who do you model your game after?
I don’t really model my game after anyone because I feel like my game has to be different due to my size. But my mentality is similar to Kobe Bryant because he is fearless and isn’t afraid of any opponent or situation.
What qualities do you bring to a college program?
I feel like I can bring anything needed to a college program. But the qualities I thrive in are leadership, work ethic and fearlessness.
