NY2LA Swish N’ Dish Opening Night Preview: 17U
A look ahead to the 17U action taking place on opening night of the NY2LA Sports Swish N’ Dish…
Milwaukee Rebels-Spartans vs. All-Ohio Red
Big test for the Rebels-Spartans on opening night. The Rebels-Spartans get a primetime matchup with All-Ohio Red, who are loaded with talent. Andre Gordon, and Samari Curtis are three of seven top 15 prospects from the Buckeye State.
However, the EYBL powerhouse will have to find a matchup for Deontay Long. Coming off a season where he averaged nearly 30 points per game, Long has cemented himself as one of the most explosive scorers in the nation. Will he have enough in the tank for a big win on Friday?
Ray Allen Select vs. Chicago Select
Domask and RAS are one of the top teams in the NY2LA Association. This RAS group has been one of the most underrated in the Midwest, if not the country. All this group does is win and has had a very strong two-year run in the NY2LA Circuit.
RAS features a strong trip of Cole Nau (Brookfield Central), Marcus Domask (Waupun), and David Skogman (Waukesha West), three of the best players in their respective conferences. A blue collar group that defends the heck out of people and forces you to work your tails off when they possess the ball, RAS is difficult unit to beat.
However, they’ll have their hands full with Myles Baker, a top 10 prospect in Illinois, as well as some intriguing under the radar talent from the Chicago area.
Wisconsin Swing Gibbs vs. Illinois Stars
The Swing has some nice size and versatility this season with Jake Poetzl (Marinette), Cameron Paske (Lakeside Lutheran), and Josh Cash (Waunakee). Keep tabs on point guard Darryl Brooks (Menomonee Falls) as well, who had a nice season on the NY2LA circuit a year ago.
The Illinois Stars will be a good test on opening night. Led by Christopher Burnell and Ethan Helwig, the Stars provide a test of equal or similar skill.
Wisconsin Shooters vs. Hoops4Health
The Shooters could surprise a lot of people this year. This is a squad that has some of the better hidden talent in the state of Wisconsin. Ace Evans (Martin Luther), Ryan Waddell (Homestead), Zyiere Carey (Racine Park), Sonny Phinisee (Nicolet) all played big roles on some of the better teams in the Badger State.
Wisconsin Blizzard vs. RAW Athletics
Interested to see how Chombi Lambert comes out after a sensational state tournament. Rising up our rankings, Lambert is an electric floor general that can put together explosive stretches scoring the basketball. His running mate, Quintin Winterfeldt will form a strong 1-2 punch in the NY2LA Association this season.
