CaliHoop Senior Showcase: Standouts
As sixty unsigned seniors assembled at Alhambra High School (Martinez), the stage would be set for players to show the coaches in attendance why they are capable of playing at the next level. Here’s a look at the top performers from the event who produced jaw dropping highlights that had coaches scrambling for their phones.
Mack McKenzie (Lathrop), 6’4
A monstrous athlete who plays well above the rim. He is a walking dunk machine as he tries to tear the rim off with every drive or cut to the lane. His high motor makes him an effective rebounder and defender. A vocal leader who enjoys setting screens away from the ball to free up his teammates. The most intriguing aspect of his potential was his ability to dribble up the court and lead a break with solid passing.
Connor Jackson (Dublin), 6’2
A player who scores as easily as he breathes, Connor is an elite scorer from three and the midrange. When he isn’t knocking down jumpshots, he is attacking the paint to finish above the rim. He demonstrated an underrated ability to find open teammates when his scoring opportunity was taken away.
Millani Massey (Lincoln) 5’9
Good luck finding a player who competes as hard as this one. From the moment the event started, he was pressuring the ball full court and displaying strong vocal leadership skills that rubbed onto his teammates. The same intensity that makes him a good defender, also allows him to be a great driver offensively. His handle and aggressiveness to the cup make him a handle full for anyone. He has a gift for getting teammates involved especially in pick and roll situations. Be careful sagging off of him because he has no problem killing the defense with an onslaught of three point bombs.
Brooklin Sharpe (Oakland Tech), 6’4
The walking triple double threat put his versatile skill set to good use by seemingly doing everything on the court. His I.Q. for the game allows Brooklin to see things develop on the floor before they happen. Weather it was a timely backdoor cut or making a pass that nobody saw coming, he made very good use of the skill all day. A very smooth athlete who can score with ease at all three levels . His size as a guard makes him a terror defensively as he covers so much space with his wingspan.
Kai Huntsberry (Placer) 6’3
Watch your head when this one is around. He’s looking to punch it into the rim any chance he gets. Using his talent for slashing to the basket, he physically abuses guards on his way to scoring inside. A very tough minded player who is an elite shot creator and maker.
