Breakdown: The class of 2019 is a special one and as it is in every class, the majority of the talent will reside in the point guards. More prospects fit into this mold than any other and in better classes, it gets ridiculously loaded. This group has a lot of options at each level but we will say there isn’t as many DI talents as there would be expected. From Isaiah Thompson down to Luke Bumbalough, those five players are in that area with a few guys likely to make the jump this spring and summer. Should know by the end of the second live period.
As for the breakdowns we did with other classes, here is out look at this moment: Tier 1 (HM-MM): #1-2, Tier 2 (LM-DII): #3-10, Tier 3 (DII-NAIA): #11-22, Tier 4 (NAIA-DIII): #23-57.
Now, we do fully expect some to make some moves as this is the time when players are as developed as they are going to be and at the same time, as motivated as they are going to be. That first two months of the AAU season will shape things for the next year. Could see guys start to take off and jump up a level or even two in some small instances. Remember back to Bryant McIntosh of Greensburg who was right about where he should have been at the time with some DI interest but no offers heading into the spring AAU season. By the end of July he was committed to Northwestern. Rare but that shows how vital this period of time is in terms of recruitment.
As for the other levels of talent here, I really like the 3rd Tier with the DII to high level NAIA guys. There are a ton of them and a bunch of impact guys to pop up. Those players like Josiah Matthews, Maurion Martin, Craig Porter, Gabe Gladish, and Drew Lutz have the most to prove for teams that have yet to see them. They should be names to track this year.
The fact that Tier 4 has more than 30 players goes to show just how deep this group is. So, so many options and even at the bottom of the list, there are guys that will and should play in college.
As for other aspects to take in, there isn’t a ton of size on the ball in this group. I think some will grow but overall, there aren’t many that have a ton of size. Craig Porter is growing by the day and Maurion Martin is already 6’3 but beyond that, not many guys will give you a lot of size. They do, however, give you shooting ability. Isiah Moore and Spencer Piercefield most notably do that really well. Even down the list you have guys like Dan McKeeman, Kayden Key, Gabe Gladish, and Calvin Larkin.
