Metro Challenge Superlatives: Enforcers
HYATTSVILLE, MD — The Fifth Annual Metro Challenge displayed some of the most talented players from across the DMV region. There was so much talent on display that we decided to break down our superlatives into different categories. Here we continue the series with a rundown on eight enforcers. All stats referenced were provided courtesy of Legit Stats.
JOSAPHAT BILAU | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ’19
Josaphat Bilau used his size well to protect the rim. The broad-shouldered 6-foot-10 French import was an imposing paint presence at times.
EJ JARVIS | MARET ’19
6-foot-8 junior EJ Jarvis was one of the best shot blockers in attendance on Saturday. The standout from Maret School is a hard worker with a relentless motor.
RICKY LINDO | WOODROW WILSON ’18/PREP ’19
Ricky Lindo is like a human pogo stick at 6-foot-8. He was one of the best rebounders in attendance, and showed he was willing to contest everything at the rim.
WOODY NEWTON | MCKINLEY TECH ’20
Woody Newton continues to mature, and is becoming a more dominant player right in front of our eyes. At close to 6-foot-9, you won’t find many with his type of mobility and range. Newton was one of the most active rim protectors and productive rebounders at the Metro Challenge.
JOSH ODURO | PAUL VI ’19
Josh Oduro was easily the most prolific shot blocker at this event. The 6-foot-8 post prospect is coming into his own after a solid junior season at Paul VI. Oduro is deceptively strong and displays excellent timing when challenging shots.
ISMAEL PLET | VIRGINIA EPISCOPAL ’20
Ismael Plet is a freakishly athletic front court prospect who displays impressive strength and intriguing upside. He is still a bit raw at 6-7, and also probably doesn’t quite know how dominant he can be yet.
MYLES STUTE | GONZAGA ’20
Myles Stute isn’t a traditional post at 6-foot-7, but he is still able to impact the game with his ability to rebound and block shots. The talented sophomore appears set for a breakout this spring and summer.
CHARLES THOMPSON | ST. STEPHENS & ST. AGNES ’19
Charles Thompson ranks just behind Oduro in terms of productivity as far as shot blockers from the Metro Challenge were concerned. He prides himself on being active and alert defensively, which is pretty much we saw throughout the day.
