Spring Stock Risers
This spring is a time when players can jump-start their recruitment and gain offers from colleges. In this column we take a look at some players that are primed for a breakout this spring as the AAU season is about to kick-off.
Camren Hayes (2020 PG, Team CP3)-After guiding Ben L. Smith HS to one of the best seasons in recent memory, Hayes has solidified himself as one of the best point guard prospects in the state and is starting to get national recruiting attention. He is a skilled point guard that can get teammates involved and is a scoring threat when he gets into the paint. He is also a threat to knock down the mid-range jumpshot and can hit the three-point shot. He attacks the paint and can finish at the rim.
2020 PG Tristan MaxwellJustin Wright (2020 PG, Team Loaded NC 2020)-Wright was just awarded the Pitt County Player of the Year award, a pretty hefty award for a sophomore. Wright is in his first season with the Team Loaded program and things are going well. A player who understands the game and has a high basketball IQ. He is able to read defenses well and make the right play. He does well in the pick and roll and can get into the paint and score.
Tristan Maxwell (2020 PG, Team CP3-Maxwell is already getting ACC interest and is making a name for himself on the national level. He is the son of former Houston Rocket Vernon Maxwell and the genes are evident in his play. He does a good job of creating space to get his shot off and can score from all spots on the floor. He is a very athletic player that plays with a high-motor.
Ricky Council IV (2020 G, Team CP3)-Council may end up being the best of all of the Council’s which includes older brother Ricky who played at Providence and is now at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The younger Council is a scoring threat, and a strong defensive player.
Omarion Jay (2020 F, Team Loaded NC 2020)-A player who has a college ready body, Jay is a bulky, strong forward for Team Loaded NC 2020. He has a soft touch around the basket and finishes plays above the rim. He is hard to get rebounds against with his long arms and strength.
Silas Mason (2020, SF, Team CP3)-long 6’6 lefty with high major athletic ability and talent to go along with a nice stroke. He’s arguably one of the top 15 players in his class with already holding offers from Florida, Oklahoma State, DePaul, Houston, East Carolina, UNC Charlotte, UNCG, and Hampton. He is recently being recruited by Texas, UNC, NC State, Georgetown and Wake Forest. Mason is definitely one to keep an eye on as he’s yet to tap into his full potential.
