Best 2018’s Available in Virginia: 757 Edition (Public School)
As the high school season has came and left, many colleges are now on the hunt for that late steal. Across the state, there are several top prospects still without a home. Here we will take a look at these players, and what they will bring to any program.
- Dereon Seabron (6’5, Wing, Lake Taylor HS) – The reigning 4A State Player of the Year, Seabron averaged just over 22ppg in the regular season, and led his Lake Taylor Titans to a state championship. Seabron is one of the most athletic wingsin the state, and in my opinion the top unsigned senior on this list. With a possibility of going prep next season, Seabron’s recruitment did heat up during his senior campaign, hearing from Oklahoma State, JMU, Towson, and North Texas, where he took an official visit this past weekend.
- Jalen Jordan (6’3, Small Forward, Lake Taylor HS) – Joining with Seabron on the Best 2018’s Available, is teammate, Jalen Jordan. Jordan seen his productivity increase in his senior campaign, often looked as the second scoring option for the Titans, or even the leader, going off for a 38 point game in the Virginia Preps Classic. Holding one offer, from Bluefield College, Jordan brings his shooting ability, recording a 7/8 performance from 3, in the Public School vs Private School game, and his willingness to win to any college program.
- Antwan Miles (5’10, Point Guard, Phoebus HS) – The floor general for the Phoebus Phantoms, Antwan Miles is the top point guard left on the market in the 757. Miles can score the ball in various ways, with his ability to drive to thebasket, and shoot the jumper. His speed contributes to his ability to be able to drive past defenders, and listed as one of the top shooters in the 757 area, he can provide his own shot, being a nightmare for most defenders. Another plus side of Miles game, is his athletic ability. Miles has had some big dunks throughout his high school career, and can “jump out of the gym.”With how good Miles is, it make shock many to know that he also has the ability to create shots for his teammates, and is a willing passer. Miles currently holds three offers; Hampton, Howard, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
- Shawn Sanders (6’4, Small/Power Forward, Green Run HS) – Arguably the best big in the 757
from the 2018 class, Shawn Sanders can be considered a man amongst boys. Averaging 15.5PPG, and 9.7RPG in his senior season campaign, Sanders also picked up his first offer this season, from Bluefield College. Sanders size, at 220lbs, and 6’4 commonly makes it harder for most defenders to defend against. In addition to his presence in the paint, Sanders can also play the wing position, making him a multi scoring option. On the opposite end of the ball, Sanders is a mobile defender, able to grab rebounds with his quick feet, and active ability defend not only the paint but the wing. - Ray Ward (6’0, Point Guard, Salem HS) – Ray Ward commanded his Salem Sundevils to a 5A Region A championship, after entering the playoffs as an eighth seed. Ward is what can be defined as a true point guard. While many point guards in the 757 are relied upon for their scoring abilities, Ward creates shots for his teammates, as well as drive to the basket to draw the foul. Athletic, and able to play on both sides of the ball, in addition to a stellar post season, Ward should see some late offers began to come in as players transfer out of programs and make late decisions.
