Quarterfinal Top Performers
Yesterday was a crazy day in Michigan high school basketball, with quarterfinal action taking place across the state. As per usual with basketball in March, there was plenty of drama and a ton of quality games. Let’s take a look at some of the top individual performers from Tuesday’s quarterfinal action:
Tray Maddox (Novi) – Maddox hit his second game-winner of the playoffs to give Novi a 75-73 win over Belleville. He totaled 22 points on the game.
Trendon Hankerson (Novi) – While Maddox while receive most of the attention from Novi’s win over Belleville, Hankerson deserves praise as well. The floor general finished with a game-high 24 points.
Darrell Belcher (Grand Rapids Catholic Central) – Belcher was getting it done in all areas for Catholic Central, who cruised to a win over Boyne. He finished with a game-high 21 points.
Ronald Jeffrey (New Haven) – Bridgeport was able to contain New Haven’s top two offensive options in Romeo Weems and Tavares Oliver, but was unable to stop Jeffrey who exploded for 29 points and 7 rebounds in the win.
Charles Garrett (Bridgeport) – The senior posted perhaps the best stat line of the night in a loss to New Haven. He scored 36 points (26 of which came in the second half) and added 10 rebounds.
Denver Cade (Buckley) – Cade had himself a night, scoring 18 points, dishing out 7 dimes and grabbing 15 rebounds in a win over Hillman.
Luke Pfromm (De La Salle) – Despite losing the first three matchups of the season with U of D, Pfromm posted a game-high 21 points to lead De La Salle to a win.
Deante Johnson (DEPSA) – The Cleveland State signee scored a game-high 24 points in a win over Unionville-Sebawing. This comes on the heels of a 30-point performance in the regional final game.
Xavier Wade (West Ottawa) – A Ferris State football and basketball commit, Wade scored a game-high 20 points to lead West Ottawa to a win over East Lansing.
Austin Harris (Buckley) – Harris totaled 19 points in a win over Hillman, helping Buckley return to the Breslin for the second consecutive year.
Donavan Freeman (River Rouge) – Freeman led the Panthers with 17 points in a win over Divine Child, securing yet another appearance at the Breslin for River Rouge.
Jalen Thomas (U of D Jesuit) – The big man posted an impressive statline of 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in a loss to De La Salle.
Foster Loyer (Clarkston) – Fresh off winning Mr. Basketball, Loyer posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Flint Carman-Ainsworth.
Dennie Brown (Benton Harbor) – Brown led the Tigers with 18 points to help Benton Harbor return to the Breslin Center for the second consecutive year.
Jordan Winowiecki (De La Salle) – Winowiecki scored 17 points in De La Salle’s win over U of D Jesuit.
Brandon Johns (East Lansing) – Johns posted a team high 19 points, most of which came in the 4th quarter in a loss to West Ottawa.
Mason Gardner (Boyne) – Gardner posted a team-high 17 points in a loss to Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
