Available Senior Prospects at States
In putting this list of unsigned seniors together, we were struck by how few of them there are. Ahead of the State Tournament weekend in Columbus, we were only able to identify seven available senior prospects.
With plenty of their peers already signed with a college, this group of 2018 prospects has an opportunity to snag a late offer or build interest in their final weekend of high school hoops.
Myles Belyeu, 6’3” hybrid, Trotwood
Belyeu is one of two unsigned seniors in action this weekend that Division I colleges may watch. Already with multiple D-II offers under his belt, Belyeu will likely have plenty of others in attendance. The defensive versatility, intangibles, athleticism, and rebounding ability stand-out as Belyeu’s top qualities.
Juan Elmore, 6’4” W/F, Pickerington Central
Elmore comes into the weekend with an offer sheet that includes UNOH exclusively. Pick Central’s sixth man brings experience off the bench. He can handle spot duty as the primary ball-handler for them, often finishing drives with a powerful spin move for a finish. Elmore also uses his wide body to win rebound battles and defend the paint.
Martel Ferrell, 6’6” W/F, Cornerstone Christian
Although Ferrell hasn’t been the perimeter playmaker we may have expected this season, the lengthy wing still has promising physical tools and the ability to finish. He buys into the team and focuses on rebounds when necessary. We like his upside and would advise NAIAs and D-IIIs that are looking for a sleeper wing to take a chance. Ferrell is one of the only wings over 6’5” who remains unsigned in the class.
Damani Mcentire, 6’2” G, Deer Park
Mcentire is the only surefire Division I prospect in this list. The athletic combo guard is integral to Deer Park’s effectiveness on both ends because of his explosiveness. Mcentire might not show a deep shooting range, but his upside as a guard is undeniable.
Jalen Rose, 6’5” F, Deer Park
Rose has collegiate potential as a stretch forward. He shoots the triple at 37 percent and offers some versatility to their offensive attack. We expect small colleges looking for a shooting forward to like Rose this weekend.
Kendall Saunders, 6’6” F, Cornerstone Christian
Saunders is another stretch forward, but he carries a more traditional forward’s body. Saunders can attack on straight-line drives off the pump fake and finish through traffic. The combination of Saunders and Ferrell makes for the most formidable frontcourt in the D-IV Final Four.
Trey Singleton, 5’11” PG, Meadowbrook
Singleton has the looks of a Division III point guard capable of scoring the ball. He’s a sneaky shot creator in the mid-range with his ability to stop on the dime for a pull-up. Coaches will watch closely to see if he protects the ball against Trotwood’s pressure.
Scott Walter, 5’11” PG, St. Vincent-St. Mary
The NAIA/D-III prospect carries one offer from Daemen College into the weekend. Otherwise, Walter has drawn serious interest from Northeast Ohio Division III programs. The underrated athlete gives his all on the defensive side while running the offense patiently. His increased confidence as a shooter has boosted his recruiting stock this season.
