Recruiting Report: Deng Deang (2018)
Sauk Rapids-Rice wing Deng Deang seems to be on the verge of something big. The Storm senior has improved to lead his team in scoring this year and Deang helped Sauk Rapids-Rice to the state tournament that starts tomorrow.
Shooting 52 percent from the field, 72 percent from the foul line, and 32 percent from the line arc, Deang has taken another big step in reaching the vast potential he possess as a long, agile wing.
“Things are going very good this season with our team,” Deang said. “We have clicked together and it’s the best feeling on earth.”
The Storm is 21-8 on the season after winning 11 of their last 13 games making the push to play in the state tournament.
“We have a group of young guys returning after the year and they are a great disciplined group of guys that will make a difference,” Deng said. “We have a great coach and he his doing something big for the community!!! Derek Peterson! Our team goals is to win state, we are one game away from state and we’ve came to far to bend or fold.”
Tomorrow’s opponent is second ranked Austin, the second seeded team. The Storm is a tough team but they have tough players. Deang and Cody Landwehr are the known leaders and they are doing their job. But also, Anthony Massman, Nathan Waldorf, and Braden Tretter are some of the guys that have stepped up around the big names. Deng is the guy that has the ball though when the team needs a bucket.
“I have improved on being a floor general and point-forward, my passing has gotten way better,” Deang said. “I run the floor with my head up and don’t hesitate to pass.”
At 19 points, 6.6 boards, and a couple assists a game Deng is doing some of everything. And if you are a junior college coach Deng Deang is a name you should know. Right now.
“All jucos are contacting me,” Deng said. “I have a few visits coming up after the season. My college commitment will be after the hoops season.”
