Prospect Spotlight: Josh Jackmon (2018)
Tough, resilient, winner: those are the first words that come to mind when describing Josh Jackmon. Jackmon played at Miller Grove High School, where he won two state championships and was looked upon as an elite defender. During his time at Miller Grove, Jackmon was given the assignments of guarding Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Malik Newman (starting guard at Kansas), and Bryce Brown (1st team all-SEC). He held all three well below their scoring averages.
Besides his defensive skills, Jackmon is also a very capable scorer. He attacks the lane well and excels at finishing at the rim. Because of Miller Grove’s dynamic guard play in the past from Alterique Gilbert (UCONN), Keith Pinckney (Old Dominion), and Aaron Augustin (Stephen F. Austin), Jackmon did not have to carry much of the scoring load and played more of a defensive role. Currently at The Skills Factory (TSF) Prep, he is proving that he can get it done both offensively and defensively.
After a season ending ACL injuring during his senior year, Jackmon decided to attend TSF Prep. He says, “The coaches and the atmosphere and work ethic of the team is really why I chose The Skills Factory.” So far, the 6’2 guard out of Lithonia is filling out the stat sheet averaging 13 points 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals per game. During IMG’S Beach Blast Tournament, Jackmon flirted with a triple double with 8 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds in a win against IMG Academy. After the game, he was awarded with tournament MVP honors.
Jackmon credits Miller Grove and wisdom from then head coach Sharman White for his success. “They taught me never to give up when adversity hits and to always empty your bucket and give it your all.” He currently holds offers and interest from several JUCOS around the country. Whoever lands Josh Jackmon will be bringing in a leader and legitimate winner to their program.
