Potential 2020 Spring Stock Risers
The class of 2020 is another loaded class for North Carolina. Some of the big names are already on a national recruiting level but some others are primed for a breakout summer playing in the right situation with the right coaches watching.
Luke StankavageLuke Stankavage, 6’2 Ardrey Kell HS/Team Loaded NC 2020-Stankavage missed most of his freshman season at Providence Day with a knee injury but therapy and a strong work ethic allowed him to have a superb sophomore season for Head Coach Mike Craft at Ardrey Kell High School. He averaged 12.1 points and 2 assists per game this past season for the 23-6 Ardrey Kell High School team. He is not playing in any showcases or exposure camps this off-season to let his knee heal all the way and will be a force on the AAU circuit with Team Loaded NC 2020. He will have a chance to show why his was so heralded coming into Providence Day as an 8th grader, now, almost two years ago.
Justus Shelton, 6’9, F Mountain Heritage HS/Team Loaded NC 2020-Shelton, in my opinion is going to have a breakout season for Team Loaded NC 2020. He has the size and length to cause some problems for kids in his age division and should pick up an offer or two over the summer. The main factor in his chance to be a top-level recruit is his length and size. He has as soft touch around the basket and has improved his footwork. He is able to get rebounds and block shots. He will need to add some muscle down the road but just off of his size and length he will be an intriguing prospect for colleges looking to add that to their roster.
Ben Bryson, 6’1, G West Henderson HS-Bryson is a coach’s son and plays the game that way, always knowing where the right pass will be, knowing where to be at on the floor and is a defensive stopper. Bryson is a scorer and can do so without the ball in his hands. He is an above average passer, knows how to involve his teammates and can make hard passes look simple. His dad was a standout at Western Carolina in the late 90’s and I could see Bryson making a push for that level.
Yates Johnson, 6’5, Wing Terry Sanford HS-Johnson can play multiple positions on the floor and has good size at the wing spot. He is a decent shooter and can score in the paint. He averaged 9.4 points and nearly 5 rebounds per game this past season for Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville.
Tyrese Thompson, 6’1, G Asheville High School/Team Carolina-Thompson has been playing at a high level for Asheville High School since his freshman season. He is a physically strong guard that can score the basketball from all positions on the floor. He is a good ball handler and is extremely athletic at finishing above the rim when attacking. Playing with Team Carolina will get him some more exposure this summer and will help his get in front of the right eyes.
