Regional Finals: Games to Watch (Class C-D)
Tomorrow (Wednesday, March 14th) regional final games will be played throughout the state. With only two games left until Breslin, there are a countless number of quality games. Here’s a look at some of the best:
DEPSA vs Loyola (Class C)
By far the best game in Class C or D, the winner of this game has a strong chance to take the state championship. DEPSA is coming off a huge win over a talented Pershing team and will look to carry that momentum into this game. Players to watch for DEPSA are their D1 trio of seniors in Gary Solomon, Pierre Mitchell and Deante Johnson. For Loyola, the player to watch is Myron Gardner, who holds multiple D1 offers himself.
Dansville vs Covenant Christian (Class C)
The headline of this game is the battle between each team’s stars, Dansville’s Caleb Hodgson and Covenant’s Carson Meulenberg. Hodgson, a big man, will look to contain Meulenberg’s explosive athleticism – it seems as tho he has multiple dunks in every game he plays. Like the DEPSA and Loyola game, the winner of this game has a strong chance of moving on to the state championship.
Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart vs Buckley (Class D)
Buckley looks to return to the Breslin center and will need to win the next two games in order to get there. For Buckley, players to watch include Denver Cade, who’s a top-10 shooter in the state, and Austin Harris. This game is great if you enjoy high-level shooting, as Sacred Heart’s junior guard Colten Nelson is one of the best.
Southfield Christian vs Sterling Heights Parkway Christian (Class D)
Many people expect Southfield Christian to roll to a Class D state championship this year. The reason for this is because they feature arguably the best 1-2 punch in the whole state in Harlond Beverly and Bryce Washington, both of whom hold double-digit D1 offers. Also, it helps when your third option has a D1 offer, which is the case with junior guard Caleb Hunter.
