Breakdown: As we did with the class of 2021, we are looking today at those players that are going to come closer to breakout status. Guys that will take a little while longer to develop but could end up being high-end players in this class.
There are a lot of post players in this group and for good reason. Size usually takes more time to develop because their bodies take more time and their skill sets aren’t usually defined early so they could completely change what type of player they are from freshman to seniors. Kiyron Powell is the biggest standout in this group. The skinny 6’9 post is looking closer and closer to hitting that next stage of his development and it isn’t concerning it is taking a while. It was expect but the end result could be huge.
Nick Hittle and Matt Jones are big space eaters inside with Hittle being the type that could stretch the floor. Jones has really good touch inside and he’s really got a lot more to show. Cleevas Craig is a guy with the body you want but the raw skill set took some time to get to where the production could impact. He’s almost there now.
David Baker looks the part of a really interesting player. He’s all over the place with his mobility and has the body to play right now. A little undersized for his skill set but his strength and athleticism look like they could make him good anyway. Will Geiger is undersized as well but this kid just produces and produces. Outstanding rebounder and free throw shooter, he makes his living grinding out the low post.
With respect to the guards, Edreece Redmond is a favorite of mine and has the speed changing ability to create separation that can be fun to watch. Jalen Causey is right there with his size and toughness and if he can just get more run, I would be interested to see how good he can be. Carson Burtron is a tall guard who does quite a bit. He’s so versatile that he he will show a lot this summer on the circuit. Bradley Beemon is a depth piece right now for Hamilton Southeastern but in those moments where he can make plays, he usually does with craftiness and shooting ability.
