Winston-Salem Prep and Pamlico High School squared off in a battle of the top teams in the 1-A classification. It was a game that was much closer than the final score, 70-46. Pamlico jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead behind the play of 5’9, 2019 guard Lamont Murray. He was making shots rom all over and connected on 8-10 field goals for the game and finished the afternoon with 20 points for Pamlico.
Winston-Salem PrepWinston-Salem Prep would take over in the fourth quarter behind East Tennessee State recruit Daivien Williamson. The Phoenix would outscored Pamlico 42-16 over the length of the half and 23-4 in the fourth quarter. Williamson finished the game with a game-high 27 points for Winston-Salem Prep and showed what he will be able to do at the next level for East Tennessee State. He needs to get a little stronger but his scoring and ball-handling will be tremendous at the next level. He is a natural scorer and was 8-17 from the field and 2-6 from the three-point line. He made 9 of 10 free-throws.
Winston-Salem Prep also had a strong showing from 6’1, 2019 guard Chaz Gwyn, who finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the game. Gywnn has a good shot but couldn’t get them to really fall in this game but his rebounding was a major factor in the run that Winston-Salem Prep would make. 6’4 senior forward KJ Watson was strong throughout the game and had 9 points and 8 rebounds. 6’6 junior forward Zack Austin was impressive for Winston-Salem Prep, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. He has nice length to his game and is athletic.
Leading scorer on the season for Pamlico High School, 6’1 2019 guard George Jones was held to 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
